The variation of the swelling pressure of dextran hydroxyethyl methacrylate (dex-HEMA) hydrogels is determined as a function of the degradation time. In the first stage of the degradation process a moderate increase in the swelling pressure is observed due to the decrease of the elastic pressure. In this period the cross-link density of the polymer network gradually decreases, but only a small amount of free polymer (dextran) is released. Toward the end of the degradation process, however, a sudden ...

Insight in the osmotic behavior of degrading hydrogels is of great importance in the design of biodegradable hydrogels for biomedical applications. This study compares the degradation behavior of PEG-HEMA (hydroxyethylmethacrylated polyethylene glycol) and dex-HEMA (hydroxyethylmethacrylated dextran) hydrogels. The degradation of PEG-HEMA gels takes several months to over a year, while that of dex-HEMA gels takes only days or weeks. The faster degradation kinetics of dex-HEMA networks can be attributed ...

Messenger RNA (mRNA) is a promising tool for biotherapeutics, and self-amplifying mRNA (saRNA) is particularly advantageous, because it results in abundant protein expression and production is easily scalable. While mRNA therapeutics have been shown to be highly effective in small animals, the outcomes do not scale linearly when these formulations are translated to dose-escalation studies in humans. Here, we utilize a design of experiments (DoE) approach to optimize the formulation of saRNA lipid nanoparticles ...

Abstract Background: CD38 is a type II transmembrane glycoprotein widely expressed in many hematological malignancies including multiple myeloma. MOR202, a human IgG1 CD38 monoclonal antibody demonstrates cytotoxic activity. The main mode of action for MOR202-induced cell lysis is through antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity and antibody-dependent cell-mediated phagocytosis. MOR202 does not induce complement-dependent cytotoxicity, a suspected major contributor to infusion-related reactions ( ...

Both IM3-KLH and IM6-KLH stimulate an anti-Dex response in CBA mice. In C57BL mice, only IM6-KLH stimulated an anti-Dex response; IM3-KLH, although immunogenic, failed to elicit the production of anti-Dex antibodies. When challenged with either a glucocorticoid ... presence of agonist and antagonist treatment, respectively, whereas DEX males and females were not affected. Acoustic challenge ...

The alpha2-adrenergic receptor agonist Dexmedetomidine (Dex) is a sedative medication used by anesthesiologists. Dex protects the heart against ischemia-reperfusion (IR) and can also act as a preconditioning mimetic. The mechanisms involved in Dex-dependent cardiac preconditioning, and whether this action occurs ... NO pathway mediates the pharmacological cardiac effect of Dex, and whether endothelial cells are required in this ... action. Isolated adult rat hearts were treated with Dex (10 nM) for 25 min and the dimerization ...
