Allium toksanbaicum from South East Kazakhstan is described as a new species. Molecular markers reveal a close relationship to A. obliquum and some other central Asian species of the section Oreiprason. We investigated the phylogenetic relationship of the new species based on sequences of two chloroplast spacers (rpl32-trnL and trnQ-rps16) and the nuclear ribosomal DNA internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region. The new species is diploid with a chromosome number of 2n = 2x = 16. A detailed morphological ...

This paper addresses the recent mixed evidence on the relationship between interest rates and corporate liquidity. I find that high (low) interest rates are associated with high (low) short-term investments and low (high) cash due to the opportunity cost of holding the latter. Further, I show that interest rates are negatively related to total liquid assets, i.e., the sum of cash and short-term investments. These patterns suggest a two-level demand for liquidity. At the top level, there is demand for ...

This work presents Fe 3 O 4 and AgFe nanoparticles with an average diameter of 25 and 15 nm synthesized by chemical reduction of corresponding salts under a mild condition. Cubic crystal structure and spherical shape of the nanoparticles were studied by X-ray diffraction, Field emission SEM and energy-dispersive spectroscopy analysis. For biomedical applications, the nanoparticles were tested against bacteria E.coli and results revealed AgFe nanoparticles’ antibacterial activity by forming lysis ...

We present Au@Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles obtained from Fe nanoparticles and HAuCl 4 using a simple solvothermal method. Trisodium citrate (C 6 H 5 Na 3 O 7 *2H 2 O) served as a reducing agent for Au. X-ray diffraction analysis, electronic microscopes and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy revealed cubic structure, elemental composition (Au, Fe and O) and spherical shape of nanoparticles. Antibacterial activity of the sample was tested against E. coli bacteria and obtained results were discussed.

Objective - analysis of coronary angiography data in long-term period after coronary artery bypass surgery. There were 78 patients (75 (96.2%) men and 3 (3.8%) women) with recurrent angina pectoris after CABG. Postoperative follow-up period ranged from 1 month to 8 years. There were 104 and 39 local stenoses and occlusions de novo, respectively. New local stenoses appeared in 31 arteries with patent bypass grafts and in 18 arteries with closed graft. There were 143 (60.3%) patent and 94 (39.7%) occluded ...

This paper studies the real effects of corporate financial portfolio allocation decisions. We show that following an external financing supply shock caused by the financial crisis, the investment of a firm that has a higher ex-ante allocation to marketable securities is hampered more than that of a firm higher ex-ante allocation to cash. We show that the timing of the observed change in investment is after the event, indicating a causal effect. Consistent with a supply shock driving the results, ...

One of the main issues of environmental protection is the quality of atmospheric air. These problems are especially acute in industrialized regions, where the level of anthropogenic impact is increasing; in Kazakhstan, Central Kazakhstan belongs to such regions. The purpose of this study is to study the relationship between diseases of the population and air pollutants from industrial sources. The research methodology was the use of ArcGIS tools and the construction of a correlation between two ...

Investors have a higher demand for and place a higher valuation on income-generating assets such as high-dividend stocks when interest rates are low (Daniel et al., 2021). We examine whether managers cater to such investor demand for income by paying dividends when interest rates are low, and by not paying when interest rates are high to boost their firms' share prices. There is evidence of this when the controls for the known determinants of dividend policy are omitted. However, once the controls ( ...

We hypothesize that managers derive private benefits from speculative investment in marketable securities and, consequently, such investments vary with the quality of corporate governance. We exploit a quasi-exogenous firm-level anti-takeover index and show that firms invest less in marketable securities when corporate governance is stronger. The effects are concentrated among hi-tech and highly intangible firms, which are more prone to agency conflicts due to the opaque and specialized nature of ...

Introduction and Aim: Cesarean sections (CS) are a medically indicated and effective method for reducing maternal and perinatal mortality. The incidence of CS has increased in developed as well as developing countries over the past few decades. The objective of this study is to analyze the distribution of births according to the Robson classification and to assess ways to reduce the frequency of CS. Methods: This is a retrospective study based on records of the delivery histories of 18,125 female ...

One of the main issues of environmental protection is the quality of atmospheric air. The reason for this is that all life on Earth, first of all, needs air, which affects all climatic and biological processes in general. Harmful and dangerous impurities can be transferred alongside the movement of air masses. These problems are especially acute in industrialized regions, where the level of anthropogenic impact is increasing. These regions include Central Kazakhstan. When studying the issues of ...

Executives choose more conservative capital structures when they face greater unemployment risk due to mobility restrictions. Following an increase in the enforceability of non-compete agreements (NCAs), which exogenously increases executives’ unemployment risk by limiting their outside options, firms decrease their leverage. The effect is stronger for firms with a greater potential to reduce distress risk. For firms, increased enforceability of NCAs reduces the risks of losing key human capital ...
