R. N. Burukovsky, B. S. Averin,
In 1976 we described a new genus of nephropid lobsters (Burukovsky & Averin, 1976: 296), which we named Bellator. However, as Prof. L. B. Holthuis was so kind to inform us, the above name was already proposed in 1897 by Jordan & Evermann (1896: 488) for a genus of fishes, and our generic name thus is pre occupied. Since the new genus of lobsters described by us is very close to lobsters of the genus Thymops Holthuis, 1975, we propose the name Thymopides as a replacement for the earlier but invalid name ...

A photographic map was made of polytene chromosomes of ovarian nurse cells of Anopheles bellator females. The chromosomes of this species have complete or partial homology with those of A. cruzii, mainly in the telomeric and centromeric regions. Variability at the single band level was observed as asymmetric bands at seven different positions. One inversion (3Ra) was detected in the 3R arm.

Anopheles (Kerteszia) cruzii is a primary vector of Plasmodium parasites in Brazil's Atlantic Forest. Adult females of An. cruzii and An. homunculus, which is a secondary malaria vector, are morphologically similar and difficult to distinguish when using external morphological characteristics only. These two species may occur syntopically with An. bellator, which is also a potential vector of Plasmodium species and is morphologically similar to An. cruzii and An. homunculus. Identification of these ...

ABSTRACT The Warrior darter (Etheostoma bellator) is endemic to the Black Warrior River drainage (Mobile Basin) above the Fall Line in Alabama. Etheostoma bellator is a species complex, with the nominal form common and widespread, and includes a population in Gurley Creek in the lower Locust Fork in Blount County and Jefferson County, Alabama. Based on morphology and genetics, this population of Warrior darters has been identified as a potential surrogate for the federally endangered vermilion darter ( ...

Anopheles bellator is a small silvatic bromelia-breeding mosquito and is a primary human malaria vector species in Southern Brazil. The bromelia-breeding habitat of the species should accompany the Atlantic forest coastal distribution, where bromeliads are abundant. Nonetheless, records on An. bellator collections show a gap in the species geographical distribution. An. bellator has been recorded in Southern Brazil and in the Brazilian states of Bahia and Paraíba. It appears again in the island ...
