K. R. Ramanathan, R. V. Bhonsle, S. S. Degaonkar,
Measurements of cosmic radio noise at 25 Mc/s, being made at the Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad, since March 1957, have shown much larger values of absorption than those observed by Shain and Mitra in Australia. This fact, together with the empirically known dependence of the absorption on the critical frequency of the F region, and the effect of magnetic storms on the absorption found from the Ahmedabad observations have led us to examine the different possible parameters that may affect ...

The total electron content NT and the equivalent slab thickness T of the midlatitude ionosphere are determined from differential Doppler measurements on the radio transmissions from the Transit 4A satellite and the ionosonde data near Washington, D.C., and Ottawa. The trends of diurnal, seasonal, and sunspot cycle variations of NT and T at midday are describer!.It is found that in 1962 both NT and T were considerably decreased in magnitude as compared to the corresponding values near the peak of ...

A group of 20,358 villagers in two districts of India has been followed for 7 years to study the incidence of oral leucoplakia. The follow-up rate of the population in two districts ranged from 61% to 71%. In one of the districts (Bhavnagar) no new cases of leucoplakia were found among females in the 7-year period. Among males 105 cases developed (4-0/1000/year). The incidence was highest among hookli (clay pipe) smokers. In the Ernakulam district the incidence among males was 3-3/1000/year whereas ...

The administration of cobaltous chloride to rats produced a selective dose-dependent decrease in the cytochrome P-450 component of the microsomal electron transport system. A concommitant of the alteration in microsomal electron transport components was a refractoriness to the carbon tetrachloride-induced elevation in serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT), serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase (SGPT), isocitric dehydrogenase (ICDH), and the decrease in hepatic microsomal glucose-6-phosphatase ...

During an epidemiologic study of oral cancer and precancerous lesions among Indian villagers, a lichen planus-like lesion was observed in Kerala. The lesion consisted of white, wavy, parallel, non-elevated lines that could not be scraped off. The lesion occurred exclusively among chewers and at the site of placement of quid. There were no subjective symptoms. The peak prevalence of the 35 diagnosed lesions was in the 35-44 years age-group for males and 45-54 for females. There was a marked female ...

The yearly incidence of submucous fibrosis per 100,000 person-years was found to be 9 for males and 20 for females over a 10-year period in the Ernakulam district of Kerala, South India. In the same area possible early cases of submucous fibrosis, under the clinical diagnosis of leukoplakia and lichen planus, showed the typical histologic features of the disease.

In this paper a Finite-Ήankel-Laplace transformation of a certain generalized functions is defined, and an inversion formula is established.1* Introduction.Schwartz first introduced the Fourier transform of distributions in 1947.Since then, extension of the classical integral transformation to generalized functions has been of continuing interest. Some pertinent references are [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [7], [8], and [9].The classical Finite-Hankel-Laplace transform of function / defined on -oo<£<oo ?0<τ/<lis defined ...

In a house-to-house survey in South India, comprising 10,000 villagers, the age-adjusted incidence rate per 1,000 person-years for oral lichen planus was found to be 2.1 for males and 2.5 for females, based upon a 10-year follow-up study. The highest incidence was in the age group 55-64 for males and 45-54 for females. The age-adjusted relative risk was higher for the 'chewing habits' group (6.2) than for the 'smoking habit' group (2.2). The combined effect of the two habits appeared to be multiplicative; ...

Abstract The habit of chewing tobacco along with lime in the canine‐premolar region of the mandibular groove is widespread (28%) in the rural population of Maharashtra, India. Among individuals with this habit, a thick yellowish‐white‐to‐brown lesion was observed at the site of placement of the mixture. Unlike leukoplakia, this lesion could be scraped off. The prevalence of this lesion among 101,761 Maharashtrian villagers was 2.9% which is four times more common than leukoplakia (0.67%). It is surmised ...

Abstract – The occurrence in oral submucous fibrosis of small raised blue spots has not been reported. This feature was observed in nine (22%) of 40 submucous fibrosis cases diagnosed in the Ernakulam district, Kerala, India. None of the patients complained of bleeding from the spots or from elsewhere, nor was there any history of systemic disorders. Histologically, the lesions could be explained by juxtaepithelial, endorthelial‐lined luminae containing erythrocytes and the presence of juxta‐ and intraepithclial ...

The administration of diethylmaleate (DEM) to fed and fasted rats produced a marked depletion of hepatic reduced glutathione (GSH) to 26 and 20% of respective saline control values 30 min after drug administration. When carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) was administered to fasted animals pretreated with saline or DEM, the serum enzymes GOT, GPT, and ICDH were elevated 24 hr after intoxication, but the increases were greater in the saline-pretreated group (p < 0.05). The administration of CCl4 to fed animals ...
