Abstract The structure of E. coli adenylate kinase with bound AMP and AMPPNP at 2.0 Å resolution is presented. The protein crystallizes in space group C2 with two molecules in the asymmetric unit, and has been refined to an R factor of 20.1% and an R free of 31.6%. In the present structure, the protein is in the closed (globular) form with the large flexible lid domain covering the AMPPNP molecule. Within the protein, AMP and AMPPNP, an ATP analog, occupy the AMP and ATP sites respectively, which ...

Several recent studies have emphasised the need for a more integrated process in which researchers, policy makers and practitioners interact to identify research priorities. This paper discusses such a process with respect to the UK water sector, detailing how questions were developed through inter-disciplinary collaboration using online questionnaires and a stakeholder workshop. The paper details the 94 key questions arising, and provides commentary on their scale and scope. Prioritisation voting ...

This paper is concerned with the role of private sector finance in urban regeneration. The theme is initially explored from a literature perspective examining recent initiatives and current policy directions. The central core of the analysis investigates investment behaviour and draws upon results of two independent survey cohorts namely private sector actors who invest in urban regeneration and those not investing. Motives for holding property investment portfolios and decision-making criteria ...

Owing to the high rates of malignant mesothelioma in workers exposed to crocidolite earlier at Wittenoom and evidence of protection against cancer by vitamin A, a population-based cancer prevention programme providing retinol supplements (25 000 IU/day) was commenced in 1990. The former workers at Wittenoom known to be alive and living in Western Australia in June 1990 constitute the study population. John F. Berry, Eckhard Bill, E. Bothe, Frank Neese, Karl Wieghardt,

Electron-transfer series are described for three ferric complexes of the pentadentate ligand 4,8,11-trimethyl-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane-1-acetate (Me3cyclam−acetate) with axial chloride, fluoride, and azide ligands. These complexes can all be reduced coulometrically to their Fe(II) analogs and oxidized reversibly to the corresponding Fe(IV) species. The Fe(II), Fe(III), and Fe(IV) species have been studied spectroscopically and their UV−vis, Mössbauer, EPR, and IR spectra are presented. The ...

John F. Berry, Eckhard Bill, E. Bothe, Thomas Weyhermüller, Karl Wieghardt,

The ligand 1,4,8-tri-N-methyl-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane-11-acetic acid (Me3cyclam−acetic acid) has been synthesized by Eschweiler−Clarke methylation of cyclam−acetic acid, and the iron(III) complex [(Me3cyclam−acetate)FeN3]PF6, 1, has been synthesized, which has been found to have significantly different properties than its unmethylated analogue, [(cyclam−acetate)FeN3]PF6, 2. Whereas the iron ion in 2 is low spin with S = 1/2, 1 is found to be high spin at temperatures above 100 K, though low-spin ...

Reaction of Pd2(DAniF)4, 1, (DAniF = di-p-anisylformamidinate) with 1 equiv of AgPF6 in CH2Cl2 at or below −10 °C produces the paramagnetic species [Pd2(DAniF)4]PF6, 1-PF6, that has been studied by X-ray crystallography, UV−vis spectroscopy, electrochemistry, and multifrequency (9.5, 34.5, 110, and 220 GHz) EPR spectroscopy. Upon oxidation of the precursor, the Pd−Pd distance decreases by 0.052 Å from 2.6486(8) to 2.597(1) Å. The EPR spectra show broad signals with line widths of about 1000 G. The spectra ...
