C. E. Pope, Bill Day,

In most mammalian species, development to the blastocyst stage is reached after the embryo passes from the oviduct into the uterus. Blastocyst formation has also been observed in fertilized ova retained in the oviduct of the mouse (Kirby, 1962; Orsini & McLaren, 1967), rat (Alden, 1942) and rabbit (Adams, 1958) following the placing of a ligature at the uterotubal junction. Early mouse (Whitten, 1956; Brinster, 1963; Whitten & Biggers, 1968), rabbit (Kane & Foote, 1970) and rat (Folstad, Bennett & Dorfman, 1969) ...

Tom Butler, Joseph Feller, Andrew Pope, Bill Emerson, Ciarán Murphy,

There is a growing interest in the application of information technologies (IT) for Knowledge Management (KM) in the public sector; there is, however, a dearth of research on the design and development of effective, integrated Knowledge Management Systems (KMS). Consequently, public sector organisations and private sector enterprises are offered little in the way of guidance in designing KMS from the bewildering range of information technologies said to capture, store, retrieve, transfer and apply ...

Hemicentins (HMCNs) are a family of extracellular matrix proteins first identified in Caenorhabditis elegans, with two orthologs (HMCN1 and 2) in vertebrates. In worms, HMCN is deposited at specific sites where it forms long, fine tracks that link two tissues by connecting adjacent basement membranes (BMs). By generating CRISPR/Cas9-mediated Hmcn1 and Hmcn2 knockout mice, we tested the hypothesis that HMCNs perform similar functions in mammals.Hmcn1 -/- mice were viable and fertile. Using new, knockout ...

Diabetes disease management (DM) programs strive to promote healthy behaviors, including obtaining hemoglobin A1c (A1c) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) tests as part of standards of care. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between frequency of telephonic contact and A1c and LDL testing rates. A total of 245,668 members continuously enrolled in diabetes DM programs were evaluated for performance of an A1c or LDL test during their first 12 months in the programs. The association ...

The female condom provides an important alternative means of protection against HIV and other sexually transmitted infections for women, particularly in situations where partners are reluctant or refuse to use male condoms. The relatively high cost of the device, however, is a barrier to its use in resource-poor environments. This has led to some reuse of the product and two studies have demonstrated that female condoms can withstand a limited level of reuse without an excessive loss of structural ...

Abnormal replication timing has been observed in cancer but no study has comprehensively evaluated this misregulation. We generated genome-wide replication-timing profiles for pediatric leukemias from 17 patients and three cell lines, as well as normal B and T cells. Nonleukemic EBV-transformed lymphoblastoid cell lines displayed highly stable replication-timing profiles that were more similar to normal T cells than to leukemias. Leukemias were more similar to each other than to B and T cells but ...
