Bob Johnston, Barbara Morris,

Service organisations do not always manage those items which affect customer satisfaction to the same level as manufacturing organisations, which indicates a possible mismatch between what customers think they are buying and what service organisations seem to be providing. F. Michael Schultz, Mary Bob Wylie, John M. Johnston,

In addition to the glycerol-3-phosphate pathway the biosynthesis of triglycerides by the monoglyceride pathway has been described in the hamster adipose tissue. The interrelationship of the two pathways was investigated. When microsomes were utilized, the 2-monooleyl ether (0–7 mM) progressively inhibited the incorporation of 5 mM 14C-glycerol-3-phosphate into phosphatidic acid. When whole cells were employed, the synthesis of higher glycerides by the glycerol-3-phosphate pathway was similarly inhibited. ...

Diether Polheim, J.S.K. David, F. Michael Schultz, Mary Bob Wylie, John M. Johnston,

The synthesis of phosphatidic acid and di- and tri- glycerides via the glycerol-3-phosphate pathway is markedly inhibited by 2-monooleyl ether in microsomal and whole cell preparations obtained from adipose and intestinal tissue. Mono- glycerides are also inhibitors under conditions in which their hydrolysis is minimized. A correlation between inhibition by, and the hydrolysis of, monoglycerides has been demonstrated. 2-Monooleyl ether is the most effective inhibitor of the several mono- and di- ...

Abstract This paper examines different levels of wage moderation in EMU member states since the introduction of the euro. Most arguments examining wage restraint have done so relying on the assumptions that relations between EMU member states are symmetric and that wage-setting systems are similar across sectors within one country. We introduce one innovation to these approaches and develop a second existing one. The paper adopts a dual-sector approach, where exposed sector unions are still tied ...

Excessive fiscal spending is commonly cited as a root of the current European debt crisis. This article suggests, like others, that the rise of competitiveness imbalances contributing to national imbalances in total borrowing is a better explanation for systemic differences toward Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) countries’ exposure to market speculation. We identify one driver of this divergence: a country’s capacity to limit sheltered sector wage growth, relative to wage growth in the manufacturing ...

N-of-1 trials are a useful tool for clinicians who want to determine the effectiveness of a treatment in a particular individual. The reporting of N-of-1 trials has been variable and incomplete, hindering their usefulness in clinical decision making and by future researchers. This document presents the CONSORT (Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials) extension for N-of-1 trials (CENT 2015). CENT 2015 extends the CONSORT 2010 guidance to facilitate the preparation and appraisal of reports of an ...

N-of-1 trials provide a mechanism for making evidence-based treatment decisions for an individual patient. They use key methodological elements of group clinical trials to evaluate treatment effectiveness in a single patient, for situations that cannot always accommodate large-scale trials: rare diseases, comorbid conditions, or in patients using concurrent therapies. Improvement in the reporting and clarity of methods and findings in N-of-1 trials is essential for reader to gauge the validity of ...

Background From April 1, 1999, family physicians are required to refer all patients who have suspected breast cancer in the UK urgently to hospital, to be seen within 14 days of referral. We investigated whether delays by providers in routine practice for diagnosis influence survival. Methods We did a retrospective analysis of 36 222 patients with breast cancer listed in the Yorkshire Cancer Registry. Data on delay after family-physician referral, hospital visit, and start of treatment were available, ...

The reduction of nitrate to nitrite by the oral microbiota has been proposed to be important for oral health and results in nitric oxide formation that can improve cardiometabolic conditions. Studies of bacterial composition in subgingival plaque suggest that nitrate-reducing bacteria are associated with periodontal health, but the impact of periodontitis on nitrate-reducing capacity (NRC) and, therefore, nitric oxide availability has not been evaluated. The current study aimed to evaluate how periodontitis ...
