Measurements of the diameter of O. universa carried out on 30 specimens from 39 samples covering a sediment thickness of 78 m and going back in time to approximately 750 000 y resulted in the construction of a curve of the mean diameter and a curve of the maximum diameter. Both curves, as well as those calculated with the running-averages technique, display cyclic fluctuations with durations of the order of 100 000 y and downwards decreasing amplitudes. These curves are compared with a carbonate ...

Abstract A shallow mesoscale anticyclonic eddy, observed south of the Canary Islands with satellite altimetry, has been intensively studied with multiparametric sampling. Hydrographic data from a CTD installed on an undulating Nu‐shuttle platform reveal the presence of a mesoscale anticyclonic eddy of ∼125 km diameter. The difference in sea level anomaly (SLA) between the interior and the edge of the eddy, as determined from altimetry, is ∼15 cm, which compares well with the maximum dynamic height ...

More than 6,500 megavoltage teletherapy units are needed worldwide, many in low-resource settings. Cobalt-60 units or linear accelerators (linacs) can fill this need. We have evaluated machine performance on the basis of patient throughput to provide insight into machine viability under various conditions in such a way that conclusions can be generalized to a vast array of clinical scenarios.Data from patient treatment plans, peer-reviewed studies, and international organizations were combined to ...

The standard treatment for locally advanced cervical cancer (LACC) is concurrent chemoradiation (CRT) followed by brachytherapy (BRT). The addition of chemotherapy (ChT) to radiotherapy (RT) is associated with a 7.5% improvement in overall survival but with more grade 3-4 acute toxicities (16.4% vs 4.9%, CRT vs RT alone). The risk-benefit ratio could be less favorable in advanced disease with renal dysfunction secondary to tumor-related hydronephrosis; borderline cardiac function; and frail patients. ...
