Using automated overwinter sampling devices, we collected preserved phytoplankton samples from multiple depths in Lake Fryxell, a permanently ice‐covered lake in southern Victoria Land, Antarctica. Photosynthetic algae were maintained in a stable water column throughout winter darkness. The algal taxa overwintered in different ways in a species‐specific manner. Typical vegetative cells were the most abundant form for all species found in the water column. Populations of one chlorophyte, Stichococcus ...

This investigation examined the hypothesis that release of K + accounts for EDHF activity by comparing relaxant responses produced by ACh and KCl in human subcutaneous resistance arteries. Resistance arteries (internal diameter 244±12 μm, n =48) from human subcutaneous fat biopsies were suspended in a wire myograph. Cumulative concentration‐response curves were obtained for ACh (10 −9 – 3×10 −5 M ) and KCl (2.5 – 25 m M ) following contraction with noradrenaline (NA; 0.1 – 3 μ M ). Bryce N. Taylor, Niki Rasnake, Kelly McNutt, Catherine L. McKnight, Brian J. Daley,

There is debate within the emergency medical services (EMS) community over the value of calling a helicopter for trauma patients within a moderate distance/<45 min, of a trauma center. Helicopter EMS (HEMS) generally have a wider scope and more advanced training than the ground EMS (GEMS). GEMS, on the other hand, have the benefit of being able to immediately initiate rapid transport to the trauma center without the delay involved with HEMS flying to the scene, landing, and assuming patient care.We ...
