After a successful launch of the Japanese Medium-Scale Broadcasting Satellite for Experimental Purpose (BSE) "Yuri" in April 1978, check-outs of the satellite and the transponder were conducted by the National Space development Agency of Japan (NASDA) for three months. In July, Radio Research Laboratories (RRL) of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (MOPT) and Nippon Hoso Kyokai (NHK: Japan Broadcasting Corporation) initiated various kinds of satellite broadcasting experiments which will be continued ...

Yu Yao, Lenan Wu, Jiwu Wang,

Since digital video broadcasting via satellite (DVB-S) signals are “inefficient”, regarding the amount of information they convey on the bandwidth they occupy, a joint broadcasting and ranging system would constitute a unique platform for future digital video broadcasting satellite services effecting the essential tasks of satellite navigation system and direct to home (DTH) services, in terms of both spectrum efficiency and cost effectiveness. In this paper, the design of dual frequency M-ary position ...

Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Public Corporation (NTT) initiated the world's first 30/20-GHz domestic satellite communication system for commercial use, using CS-2s launched from Japan in 1983. This system utilizes TDMA digital communication in the trunk transmission route of the public communication network, which includes interregional-center routes and main-island-to-remoteisland routes. Small transportable earth stations enable easy access to the public communication network from any place in ...

Sam Paltridge,

The costs and benefits associated with the creation and ongoing maintenance of services such as Remote Commercial Television Service (RCTS) and the Homestead and Community Broadcasting Satellite Service (HACBSS) operated by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), to extend television access to regional Australia, are examined. The financial viability of future AUSSAT-based services to remote Australia is questioned.

L.G.H. Huxley,

This paper is an account of an extensive series of investigations on ionospheric crossmodulation (wave interaction) in special tests arranged in collaboration with the British Broadcasting Corporation. Special attention is paid to seasonal and nocturnal changes in the cross-modulation and to the theoretical interpretation of the experimental results. It is shown how a variety of evidence is consistent with the assumption that the cross-modulation is highly localized in the E -region at one or two ...

Network infrastructure provisioning is a critical subset of the automated deployment of Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC)/Radio-Canada’s Media-Over-Internet Protocol (IP) Data Center. As the on-air date approached, it became clear that to respond to the fast-changing production needs, traditional network provisioning methods were inadequate. As we began to explore various automation solutions, we realized that a new NetDevOps culture needed to be cultivated within our organization. This article will ...

Abstract This paper reviews two TDMA systems which have been developed at NTT (Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Public Corporation) for domestic use in Japan. The first system uses K‐Bands (30/20 GHz) and is called the TDMA‐65M system. This system constructs a variable channel capacity network between 8 major cities (regional centres). The second system uses C‐Bands (6/4 GHz) and is called the TDMA‐100M system. This system provides remote island communication links for simultaneous transmission of voice ...

G. H. Hagn,

Elevation-plane relative directivity patterns of a 9-ft rod measured with the XELEDOP full-scale HF antenna pattern measurement system are compared with values assumed by the Voice of America (VOA) and the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). Values of such directivity patterns and gain for a 7.5-ft monopole with sixteen buried ground radials, measured at the same site, are compared with predictions of directivity and gain made with the numerical electromagnetics code (NEC). An extensive set of ...
