CHD1 is a conserved chromatin remodeling factor that localizes to active genes and functions in nucleosome assembly and positioning as well as histone turnover. Mouse CHD1 is required for the maintenance of stem cell pluripotency while human CHD1 may function as a tumor suppressor. To investigate the action of CHD1 on higher order chromatin structure in differentiated cells, we examined the consequences of loss of CHD1 and over-expression of CHD1 on polytene chromosomes from salivary glands of third ...

The effects of lithium-ion electrolyte additives in ester-rich low temperature electrolyte blends, including vinylene carbonate (VC), lithiuma bis(oxalato) borate (LiBOB), lithium difluoro(oxalato)borate (LiDFOB), propane sultone (PS) and lithium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide (LiFSI), upon the likelihood of lithium plating are investigated in graphite-LiNiCoAlO 2 three-electrode cells. Although metallic lithium is generally absent in lithium-ion cells, certain conditions, particularly charging at low temperature ...

Future landers to the moons of the outer planets could be powered by higher specific energy primary batteries. Batteries based on lithium carbon monofluoride (Li/CFX) provide ~50% higher specific energy than heritage cells (Li/SO2 or Li/SOCl2) in relevant conditions. Radiation tolerance is a major concern due to the high radiation environment surrounding Jupiter and its moons. Gamma radiation exposure may also become the sterilization (a critical step for any lander to planetary bodies where life may ...

Abstract G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) mediate signal transduction from the cellular surface to intracellular metabolic pathways. While the function of many GPCRs has been delineated previously, a significant number require further characterization to elucidate their cellular function. G-protein coupled receptor 19 (GPR19) is a poorly characterized class A GPCR which has been implicated in the regulation of circadian rhythm, tumor metastasis, and mitochondrial homeostasis. In this report, we ...

Lithium-carbon monofluoride (Li/CF x ) D-sized battery cells discharged at very low rates (C/1800) were found to deliver inconsistent capacities. These effects were found to be absent as the discharge rate was increased to C/600. Destructive physical analysis of the cells discharged at C/1800 confirmed the effects of corrosion, manifesting as preferential utilization of the Li anode around the copper current collector, discoloration of the remaining excess Li, and more crucially loss of adhesion to ...

Lithium-ion cells employing graphitic anodes (graphite or MCMB) and lithiated metal oxide cathodes, Li(Ni,Co,Al)O2 are generally intolerant to low cell voltages, which is often attributed to the side reactions on the anode. Even though dissolution of the copper substrate at the anode is not thermodynamically favored at the anode potentials positive to lithium, mild copper dissolution was often reported to occur at positive potentials. Furthermore, the cell performance appears to degrade upon exposure ...

In-situ exploration of Venus is challenging due to its severe environment, which is benign (25 o C) at an altitude of 55 km, but rapidly becoming more hostile at lower altitudes. The temperature increases at ~7 o C/km to ~465°C, with the pressure reaching 90 bars at the surface. 1 These challenging conditions have limited in-situ exploration missions to high altitude balloons at 55 km (above the clouds) that lasted for 48 h, or even shorter duration surface missions that survived for two hours. 2,3 ...

ABSTRACT Background Modeling outcomes, such as onset of heart failure (HF) or mortality, in patients following ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) is challenging but clinically very useful. The acute insult following a myocardial infarction and chronic degeneration seen in HF involve a similar process where a loss of cardiomyocytes and abnormal remodeling lead to pump failure. This process may alter the strength and direction of the heart's net depolarization signal. We hypothesize that changes ...
