UDP-glucuronosyltransferases (UGTs) are important phase II metabolic enzymes responsible for approximately 40-70% of endo and xenobiotic reactions. It catalyzes the transfer of glucuronic acid to lipophilic substrates, converting them into hydrophilic compounds that are excreted. There are 22 active human UGTs that belong to 4 families. This review focuses on human UGTs, highlighting the most current issues in order to connect all information available and allowing a discussion on the challenges ...

Sensory evaluations to determine the shelf life of food products are routinely conducted in food experimentation as a part of each product development program. In such experiments, trained panelists are asked to judge food attributes by reference to a scale. The "failure time" associated to a product unit under test is usually defined as the time required to reach a cut-off point previously defined by the food company. Due to the destructive nature of these evaluations, one never knows the exact " ...

BACKGROUND:Few reports have described the association between coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and sudden hearing loss. The precise pathophysiological mechanism causing this symptom is unknown. This report describes a case of sudden hearing loss in a patient with COVID-19 pneumonia due to SARS-CoV-2 infection. CASE REPORT:A 67-year-old woman with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), as confirmed by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) testing from nasopharyngeal ...

Abstract: Quick tests are essential tools to evaluate seed quality. The objective of this study was to adapt the methodology of tetrazolium test, by identifying the most suitable pre-conditioning parameters of imbibition temperature and duration, and tetrazolium solution concentrations, in order to assess the physiological quality of chickpea seeds. Also, this work proposed the separation of lots in classes, according to the viability and vigor of the seeds. Three lots of chickpeas (lot 1 - BRS Aleppo ...

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is the most common motor neuron disease in adults despite it being rare. It is a neurodegenerative disease in which dysphagia is a common and debilitating symptom. Dysphagia can be assessed by complementary exams, such as fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing and the tongue strength test, as this is one of the main muscles involved in swallowing.
