Breast cancer (BRCA) is a serious public health problem, as it is the most frequent malignant tumor in women worldwide. BRCA is a molecularly heterogeneous disease, particularly at gene expression (mRNAs) level. Recent evidence shows that coding RNAs represent only 34% of the total transcriptome in a human cell. The rest of the 66% of RNAs are non−coding, so we might be missing relevant biological, clinical or regulatory information. In this report, we identified two novel tumor types from TCGA with ...

The production of biofuels has had a great impact on climate change and the reduction of the use of fossil fuels. There are different technologies used for the separation and production of biofuels, which allow having compounds such as ethanol, methane, oxygen, and hydrogen, one of these promising technologies is the Pressure Swing Adsorption process (PSA). The objectives of this article focus on the production and purification of compounds that achieve purities of 99.5% bioethanol, 94.85% biohydrogen, ...

This article presents a Bayesian nonparametric approach to the estimation of a system and its components' survival functions arising from observing the failure of a series system or a competing risk model. A Dirichlet multivariate process is used as a prior for the vector of the components' random subsurvival function to derive Bayes estimator of the survival function when the cause of failure belongs to a certain risk subset. This is done as follows. First, Peterson's formula is evaluated using ...

Abstract Farnesol, a sesquiterpene alcohol, has been shown to have antioxidant and anti‐inflammatory properties. Recent studies have found that antioxidant compounds may exert a certain protective effect against neurotoxicity. The objective of this study was to evaluate the antinociceptive activity of farnesol (FAR) and its neurotoxic effects on the brains of adult mice. In this study, two mouse models of analgesia were used to evaluate FAR at doses of 50, 100, and 200 mg/kg, injected intraperitoneally ( ...

The Pernambuco Shear Zone (PSZ) is a 700 km long branch of one of the largest and best-exposed Precambrian strike-slip shear zone systems in the world. The shear zones are part of the eroded record of a large-scale collision zone. Foliation and lineation orientations along the shear zone indicate that local deformation perturbations have produced variable fabric orientations, with up to 40 ° change in dip and strike. However, the dominant flow pattern is consistently horizontal strike-slip across a ...

Abstract Chaos has attracted the interest of the research community due to its applications in secure communication, and in the study of complex systems in physics, engineering and other applied sciences. In the particular case of secure communication, fast synchronisation is a requirement to avoid any loss of information at the initial stage, when the signalisation data is transmitted. With the aim of providing fast and precise synchronisation, a novel algorithm is proposed in this paper, such ...

Abstract Primary lung tumors are rare in children, and mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) represents less than 10% of them. Additionally, MEC arising from bronchogenic cysts (BC) is particularly unusual. We describe the clinical and genetic findings on a MEC occurring within a previous location of a BC in an adolescent. This particular association has not been previously reported. The lesion revealed normal karyotype without the typical t(11;19)(q21;p13) translocation. Cyclin D1 overexpression (165‐fold ...

Introduction. The standard method for diagnosis of small intestinal bacterial overgrowth is a duodenal aspirate that produces a coliform count greater than 105 colonic forming units/ml. Because this is an invasive procedure, the lactulose breath hydrogen test is considered as a non-invasive alternative. Better experimental support is required, however, for the routine use of lactulose in diagnosis.Objective. Experimental evidence is provided to support the use of lactulose in the breath hydrogen ...

In this paper, we study the weak convergence of Dirichlet measures on the class constituted by vectors of subprobability measures such that the sum of its components is a probability measure on a complete separable metric space. This vectorial class of subprobabilities appears in the context of the competing risks theory and the Dirichlet measures are considered as a prior family in a Bayesian approach. The weak convergence results are derived and used to study the convergence of the Bayes estimators ...

Pressure swing adsorption (PSA) technology is used in various applications. PSA is a cost-effective process with the ability to produce high-purity bio-hydrogen (99.99%) with high recovery rates. In this article, a PSA process for the production of bio-hydrogen is proposed; it uses two columns packed with type 5A zeolite, and it has a four-step configuration (adsorption, depressurization, purge, and repressurization) for bio-hydrogen production and regeneration of the beds. The aim of this work is ...
