The next generation of mobile broadband communication, 5G, is seen as a driver for the industrial Internet of things (IIoT). The expected 5G-increased performance spanning across different indicators, flexibility to tailor the network to the needs of specific use cases, and the inherent security that offers guarantees both in terms of performance and data isolation have triggered the emergence of the concept of public network integrated non-public network (PNI-NPN) 5G networks. These networks might ...

Abstract : Cellulases are applied in food and textile industry, in the production of alcoholic beverages, bioconversion of agronomic residues and, increasingly, for production of biofuels. The fungi of cacao plants are very resistant and difficult to combat. On the other hand, enzymes produced by them have numerous biotechnological applications. The present work aimed to evaluate isolates of Moniliophtora perniciosa representatives from the Reconcavo region of Bahia, in Brazil, regarding the production ...

• Relatively little is known about the timing of genetic and epigenetic forms of somaclonal variation arising from callus growth. We surveyed for both types of change in cocoa (Theobroma cacao) plants regenerated from calli of various ages, and also between tissues from the source trees. • For genetic change, we used 15 single sequence repeat (SSR) markers from four source trees and from 233 regenerated plants. For epigenetic change, we used 386 methylation-sensitive amplified polymorphism (MSAP) markers on leaf ...

In Brazil, cacao is mostly planted beneath shade trees. The diversity of shade trees varies from monospecific to highly diverse canopies, characteristic of pristine Atlantic Forest. This study evaluates the relationships between family richness of Hymenoptera-Parasitica and Chrysidoidea, and tree species richness and density, the species richness of herbaceous understorey, and the area and age of the cacao agroforestry system. We sampled 16 cacao agroforestry systems, with canopy diversity ranging ...

Cacao (Theobroma cacao L.) has been cultivated in Central America since pre-Columbian times. The type of cacao cultivated in this region was called Criollo; cacao populations from the Amazon basin were called Forastero. The type of Forastero most commonly cultivated until 1950 was named Amelonado. Historical data show Trinitario cacao to have originated in Trinidad, resulting from natural hybridisation between Criollo and Amelonado Forastero. Doubts persist on the source of the Amelonado Forastero ...

Regression models to predict leaf area and leaf weight in cacao (Theobrama cacao L.) were fitted using leaves from cultivated plants under nursery conditions and from plants of commercial plantations, both located in the Amazon Investigations Center CIMAZ at Macagual, Caquetá, Colombia. A total of 2895 leaves were collected in such a way to cover a wide range of leaf sizes. Width, length, weight, and leaf area were measured for each leaf. The total number of leaves was randomly divided into training ...

Numerous collecting expeditions of Theobroma cacao L. germplasm have been undertaken in Latin-America. However, most of this germplasm has not contributed to cacao improvement because its relationship to cultivated selections was poorly understood. Germplasm labeling errors have impeded breeding and confounded the interpretation of diversity analyses. To improve the understanding of the origin, classification, and population differentiation within the species, 1241 accessions covering a large geographic ...

Nacional is a variety of cocoa tree known for its "Arriba" aroma characterised mainly by fruity, floral, and spicy aromatic notes. In this study, the genetic basis of the fruity aroma of modern Nacional cocoa was investigated. GWAS studies have been conducted on biochemical and sensorial fruity traits and allowed to identify a large number of association zones. These areas are linked to both the volatile compounds known to provide fruity flavours and present in the beans before and after roasting, ...

Criollo cacao (Theobroma cacao ssp. cacao) was cultivated by the Mayas over 1500 years ago. It has been suggested that Criollo cacao originated in Central America and that it evolved independently from the cacao populations in the Amazon basin. Cacao populations from the Amazon basin are included in the second morphogeographic group: Forastero, and assigned to T. cacao ssp. sphaerocarpum. To gain further insight into the origin and genetic basis of Criollo cacao from Central America, RFLP and microsatellite ...

Abstract Predicting the potential fate of a species in the face of climate change requires knowing the distribution of molecular adaptations across the geographic range of the species. In this work, we analysed 79 genomes of Theobroma cacao , an Amazonian tree known for the fruit from which chocolate is produced, to evaluate how local and regional molecular signatures of adaptation are distributed across the natural range of the species. We implemented novel techniques that incorporate summary statistics ...

A detailed description and up to date biogeographic regionalization of cultivated cacao ( Theobroma cacao L.) are lacking in Colombia. Here we propose a new biogeographical regionalization of cultivated cacao for Colombia. We used spatial partitioning, geospatial mapping of macro/microclimate variables and a hierarchical area taxonomy classification to describe, define and propose the biogeographical regions of cultivated cacao. The cacao regions were identified from distributions of 4,974 cocoa producing ...

The present study aimed to quantify the proportion of 13 C from energy and protein feed ingredients that follow the metabolic routing of the liver and muscle in broiler chickens. A stable isotope of carbon technique was used that is based on the isotopic discrimination that occurs in the plants during the photosynthesis process. Abstract Theobroma cacao L. (cacao) is an important tropical crop used to produce chocolate. Evolutionary relationships between cultivated and wild cacao genotypes and their genetic diversity are poorly understood. Exploring phylogenetic diversity and spatial patterns of both cultivated and crop wild relatives can improve the knowledge of the evolutionary history of a crop, giving insights into its cultivation, breeding programmes and conservation. This study identifies biodiversity priority areas ...
