To externally validate the logistic clinical SYNTAX in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) of the left main coronary artery (LMCA).A novel version of the clinical SYNTAX score (CSS) has been recently introduced to overcome the limitations of categorical risk scores for PCI by the incorporation of clinical variables and the SYNTAX score (SXscore) into a logistic formula for predicting 1-year mortality.Core and extended models of the logistic CSS (logCSS(core) and logCSS(ext)) ...

A mammographic and clinical screening for breast cancer started in June 1987 in the Health District of Brescia, Northern Italy, including the town and 23 surrounding municipalities. This paper describes the organization and the results of the first 12 months of screening. Of 7791 invited women aged 50-60 years, 5217 (67%) agreed to participate. There was a trend for response rates to decline with increasing age and education. Of the 5217 women examined, 66 (1.3%) were referred for biopsy and 64 (1. ...

We explored the feasibility of concurrent palliative chemotherapy and low-dose fractionated radiotherapy (LD-FRT) in glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). Patients with recurrent/progressive GBM at least 3 months after the end of primary radiotherapy received 0.3 Gy twice daily with cisplatin and fotemustine if progressing on temozolomide, or 0.4 Gy twice daily with temozolomide if recurrent 4-6 months later (retreatment group). Newly diagnosed GBM with gross residual mass received 30 Gy with concomitant ...

This article provides an overview of the use of 18F-FDG PET/CT in various clinical scenarios of head–neck squamous cell carcinoma, ranging from initial staging to treatment-response assessment, and post-therapy follow-up, with a focus on the current evidence, debated issues, and innovative applications. Methodological aspects and the most frequent pitfalls in head–neck imaging interpretation are described. In the initial work-up, 18F-FDG PET/CT is recommended in patients with metastatic cervical ...

Purpose: A novel version of the Clinical SYNTAX Score (CSS) has been recently introduced to overcome limitations of categorical risk scores for Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) by incorporation of clinical variables and the SYNTAX score into a logistic formula for predicting 1-year mortality. However, such approach has not yet been validated in patients undergoing PCI of the Left Main Coronary Artery (LMCA).

2083 Background: Second-line treatment in recurrent or progressive glioblastoma (GBM) has not yet been defined. Since in vitro and preclinical studies demonstrated a hyper-radiosensitivity of human malignant glioma cell lines to low doses fractionated radiotherapy (LD-FRT) and a synergism with chemotherapy, we performed a pilot study to evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of this approach. Methods: Eligibility criteria were: radiological diagnosis of recurrent or progressive GBM, previously treated ...

BackgroundLack of therapeutic adherence is a relevant problem in clinical practice and it can be assessed via validated tools such as the Test of Adherence to Inhalers (TAI). Education on the correct use of inhaler devices has been associated with improvement in adherence. Many studies highlighted the pivotal role of pharmacists in promoting therapeutic adherence in the management of respiratory diseases.ObjectiveTo evaluate the effectiveness on adherence and clinical parameters of an educational ...

Anaplastic gliomas include pure astrocytomas (AA), oligodendrogliomas (AO) and mixed tumors. The current standard of care for first-line treatment is radiotherapy or chemotherapy. The role of combined modality treatment based on 3D- conformal radiation therapy (3D-CRT) and concurrent Temozolomide (TMZ) has to be defined. The aim of this phase II study was to evaluate survival, local control and toxicity of 3D-CRT plus concomitant and adjuvant temozolomide in this setting of patients. Patients (>18 yrs) ...

e18513 Background: We reported that dendritic cell-based vaccination in relapsed indolent NHL patients achieved clinical benefits strongly associated with B and T cell responses. Hence, we exploited the antibody (Ab) repertoires of responders (R) and non-R (NR) to investigate whether the recognized ags might represent novel NHL targets for therapy. Methods: Vaccine-induced Ab cross-reactivity with allogeneic paraffin-embedded specimens and live tumor cells was tested by immunohistochemistry (IHC) and ...

We report on the first detection of very high-energy (VHE) gamma-ray emission from the Crab Nebula by a Cherenkov telescope in dual-mirror Schwarzschild-Couder (SC) configuration. The result has been achieved by means of the 4 m size ASTRI-Horn telescope, operated on Mt. Etna (Italy) and developed in the context of the Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory preparatory phase. The dual-mirror SC design is aplanatic and characterized by a small plate scale, allowing us to implement large field of view ...

The ASTRI Mini-Array (MA) is an INAF project to build and operate a facility to study astronomical sources emitting at very high-energy in the TeV spectral band. The ASTRI MA consists of a group of nine innovative Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes. The telescopes will be installed at the Teide Astronomical Observatory of the Instituto de Astrofisica de Canarias (IAC) in Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain) on the basis of a host agreement with INAF. Thanks to its expected overall performance, better ...

BackgroundWe sought to appraise the accuracy of non-contrast three-dimensional (3D) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in comparison with computed tomography (CT).MethodsThis is a single-center prospective study enrolling 48 consecutive patients with severe aortic stenosis screened for transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), who underwent non-contrast 3D MRI and standard cardiac CT for pre-TAVI aortic annulus assessment. Systolic MRI dimensions were modelled, by adding a corrective factor (+7.5% ...
