Alternative orange to dark red pigments were produced by purifying scum ashes from anaerobic treatment of domestic sewage. Scum samples collected a year apart were thermally treated at 650 °C/5 h to produce ashes, and these materials were purified to obtain intense colors, thermal stability, and reproducibility. The microinjection of hypertonic sodium chloride into the third ventricle elicits natriuresis and kaliuresis in rats following water loading. These responses were blocked by atropine or phentolamine microinjection into the MSA. The data suggest the interaction between periventricular areas sensible to changes of sodium concentration in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and MSA. Cholinergic and alpha-adrenergic synapses of MSA are involved in this interaction which regulates renal sodium excretion.

Abstract A solvent‐free Dakin reaction with mCPBA was accomplished with various aromatic aldehydes, resulting in an easy and improved methodology for the preparation of corresponding phenols. 3,4‐Methylenedioxyphenol, 3,4‐dimethoxyphenol, 4‐methoxyphenol, 4‐chlorophenol, and other functionalized phenols were obtained in high yields from the corresponding aromatic aldehydes in a few minutes. This new methodology represents an efficient alternative for this important synthetic conversion.
