Studies from several countries have shown that the COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionally affected migrants. Many have numerous risk factors making them vulnerable to infection and poor clinical outcome. Policies to mitigate this effect need to take into account public health principles of inclusion, universal health coverage and the right to health. In addition, the migrant health agenda has been compromised by the suspension of asylum processes and resettlement, border closures, increased deportations ...

The prevalence and role of Chlamydia pneumoniae in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) remain unclear. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells were obtained from 100 outpatients with smoking-related, clinically stable COPD, and induced sputum was obtained in 62 patients. Patients had mean age (standard deviation) of 65.8 (10.7) years, mean forced expiratory volume in one second of 1.34 (0.61) L, and 61 (61.0%) were male. C. pneumoniae nucleic acids were detected by nested polymerase chain reaction ...

Mechanisms to increase access to health products are varied and controversial. Two innovative mechanisms have been used to accelerate the development of low-price supply lines for conjugate vaccines. The Meningitis Vaccine Project is a so-called push mechanism that facilitated technology transfer to an Indian company to establish capacity to manufacture a vaccine. The Advanced Market Commitment for pneumococcal vaccines is a so-called pull mechanism that guarantees companies a supplement paid in ...

Chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN), a side effect of many anti-cancer drugs including the vinca alkaloids, is characterized by a severe pain syndrome that compromises treatment in many patients. Currently there are no effective treatments for this pain syndrome except for the reduction of anti-cancer drug dose. Existing data supports the model that the pain associated with CIPN is the result of anti-cancer drugs augmenting the function of the peripheral sensory nociceptors but the ...

Charles James Hargreave,

The author states that the principal object of this memoir is to set forth two new methods of treating the dynamical equations by processes of variation of elements, differing from the ordinary processes of this nature principally in this particular, that the variations are represented in explicit terms of the elements themselves and of the time, and not through the medium of partial differential coefficients. It has been his object to render the processes as elementary as possible; and to preserve ...

The investigations presented in this paper consist of two parts; the first offers a solution, in a qualified sense, of the general linear equation in finite differences; and the second gives an analysis of the general linear differential equation with rational factors, so far as concerns its solution in series. The author observes that there does not at present exist any general method of solving linear equations in finite differences of an order higher than the first; and that with reference to ...

1. By the aid of two simple theorems expressing the laws under which the operations of differentiation combine with operations denoted by factors, functions of the independent variable, the author arrives at a principle extensively applicable to the solution of equations, which may be stated as follows:—“if any linear equation φ ( x , D). u = X have for its solution u = ψ ( x , D). X, this solution being so written that the operations included under the function ψ are not performed or suppressed, then φ (D, - ...

The investigations presented in this paper consist of two parts; the first offers a solution, in a certain qualified sense, of the general linear equation in finite differences; and the second will be found to give an almost complete analysis of the resolution in series of the general linear differential equation with rational factors. The second part is deduced directly from the results of the first, although the subjects of which they respectively treat appear to be wholly independent of each ...
