Youbing Zhou, Eleanor M. Slade, Chris Newman, Xiaoming Wang, Shuyi Zhang,

The yellow-throated marten, Martes flavigula , is the only living species of the genus Martes found in subtropical and tropical forests (Harrison et al . 2004). It is distributed throughout central and southern Asia in a wide variety of habitats. Despite its extensive geographical range, the ecology and behaviour of this species has so far received little attention, aside from a study of habitat use (Grassman et al . 2005). Studies on other martens have shown that fruits are an important food resource (e. ...

Alistair Slade, Chris Garratt,

Adenosine has been proposed as a useful diagnostic agent in patients with narrow complex regular tachycardia of uncertain origin. Its effects are usually transient owing to its extremely short plasma half life and, as a consequence, it is thought to be safer than other drugs used in the acute treatment of such arrhythmias. However, adenosine had a proarrhythmic effect when administered to a patient in order to confirm the diagnosis of atrial flutter. As expected, a transient increase in atrioventricular ...

To contextualize the benefits of an intervention, it is important that adverse events (AEs) are reported. This is potentially difficult in trials of digital mental health interventions, where delivery may be remote and the mechanisms of actions less understood. We aimed to explore the reporting of AEs in randomized controlled trials of digital mental health interventions. The International Standard Randomized Controlled Trial Number database was searched for trials registered before May 2022. Although clinical use of needs assessment tools is widespread, there is little evidence about their value in longitudinal use. This study aimed to identify the factors associated with changing needs in an assertive outreach (AO) team's caseload, over a 6-month rating period. The Camberwell Assessment of Needs Short Appraisal Schedule (CANSAS) and the Engagement Measure (EM) were used to assess need and engagement with services respectively, in an AO team caseload. A series of mixed-anion copper chalcogenides have been prepared using solid-state methods including ACu4.2TeS2 (A = K, Rb, Cs), which adopt the KCu4S3 structure type. The mixed-anion motif has an expanded sublattice, relative to KCu4S3, that can accommodate additional Cu atoms at its interstitial sites that are unoccupied in the parent structure. The variable temperature transport shows that the materials are p-type metals with carrier densities on the order of 1021 cm–3 and room-temperature electrical ...

Global environmental change and other site specific pressures (e.g. over fishing and pollution) are threating coral reefs and the livelihoods of dependent coastal communities. Multiple strategies are used to build the resilience of both coral reefs and reef dependent communities but the effectiveness of these strategies is largely unknown. Background: Despite a lack of data regarding their efficacy, both caffeine and doxapram have been recommended for treatment of hypercapnia in equine neonates with central nervous system damage. Hypothesis: Caffeine and doxapram alleviate hypercapnia in foals with hypoxic‐ischemic encephalopathy. Animals: Sixteen foals treated with either caffeine (n = 8) or doxapram (n = 8). Methods: Information on age, body temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, arterial blood gas parameters, duration of therapy, ...

Pro-cycling interventions, and cycle hire schemes in particular, are often assumed to primarily benefit the privileged. This framing has played-out in academic research, with many papers exploring the relationship between cycling and existing inequalities. A growing body of evidence suggests that cycle hire schemes tend to serve wealthy areas and young, high income groups, mirroring inequalities in other types of cycling uptake, yet there has been little research into the ‘direction of travel’ and ...

Technologies for remotely observing animal movements have advanced rapidly in the past decade. In recent years, Australia has invested in an Integrated Marine Ocean Tracking (IMOS) system, a land ecosystem observatory (TERN), and an Australian Acoustic Observatory (A2O), but has not established movement tracking systems for individual terrestrial animals across land and along coastlines. Here, we make the case that the Motus Wildlife Tracking System, an open-source, rapidly expanding cooperative automated ...

Abstract Biosorption of metals by microorganisms is a promising technology to remove accumulated non-process elements in highly recycled biorefinery process water. Removal of these elements would enable greater water reuse and reduce the environmental impact of effluent discharge. A model lignocellulosic ethanol biorefinery wastewater was created based on pulp mill effluent. This generated a wastewater with an environmentally realistic high loading of dissolved natural organic matter (900 mg/l), ...

The effect of dissolved natural organic matter (NOM) and pH on microbial biosorption of Zn was evaluated in a model lignocellulosic biofuel refinery effluent rich in NOM. Batch culture experiments conducted with two model microorganisms (yeast, Candida tropicalis; bacteria Novosphingobium nitrogenifigens Y88T), showed an inhibitory effect of NOM, and an optimum pH for Zn removal at 7.5–8.0. Membrane bioreactors with mixed autochthonous organisms were operated at pH 6.5 and pH 8.0 to better simulate ...
