The species of the South American genus SouzalopesmyiaAlbuquerque, 1951 (Diptera: Muscidae) are very similar externally, but can be distinguished by characters of the terminalia of the males. We describe Souzalopesmyia polleti n. sp. from French Guiana and provide diagnostic images for it. The new species can be distinguished from all other species of the genus by the following combination of characters: male with two long pairs of frontal setae; one weak proepisternal seta, about ¾ length of upper ...

Abstract Digital twin (DT) technology has been a topic with academic and industrial coverage in recent years. DTs are intended to be a virtual high‐fidelity representation of a physical counterpart. Its complex nature requires several components to create and run a DT, and that is why many DT frameworks have been proposed in the literature. There are also many surveys of DTs, but none that is bottom‐up with concrete examples and focused on open‐source software. This survey analyzes 14 open‐source ...

Modeling buildings and smart energy systems requires coupling a wide range of components into one unified simulation process, which can be difficult given the complexity of these systems. Hence, a large number of researchers integrate separate simulations for each of the individual components in a co-simulation instead. To systematically analyze techniques, standards, tools and applications of co-simulation in the field of buildings and smart energy systems, the publications on co-simulations in ...

Cytochrome P450 family 1 (CYP1) is involved in polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) biotransformation. PAHs can induce CYP1 protein expression and enzyme activity, the latter being usually quantified as 7-ethoxyresorufin O-deethylase activity (EROD). The aim of this study was to characterize EROD activity in the bivalve mollusk Crassostrea brasiliana. EROD activity was evaluated in cytosolic and microsomal fractions of gills, digestive gland and mantle of C. brasiliana. No EROD activity was detected ...

Reaction Injection Moulding, RIM, is a technology for the production of plastic parts using reactive in situ polymerization from the mixing of two or more liquid monomers. Although RIM is a widely used process, nowadays there are no means to effectively control mixing. This work assesses a new control variable of mixing in RIM: the differential static pressure between the liquid monomers injectors. This control variable is related to the mechanical properties of injected RIM parts. The dynamics ...

In this study, we report a case of two palatal root canals in a maxillary second molar that was endodontically treated. The possibility of two palatal root canals in maxillary second molars is quite small; however, it must be taken into account in clinical and radiographic evaluation during endodontic treatment. Often, their presence is noticed only after a canal treatment due to continuing post-operative discomfort.

In this paper we describe and implement a parallel algorithm to find approximate solutions for the Closest String Problem (CSP). The CSP, also known as Motif Finding problem, has applications in Coding Theory and Computational Biology. The CSP is NP-hard which motivates us to think about heuristics to solve large instances. Several approximation algorithms have been designed for the CSP, but all of them have a poor performance guarantee. Recently some researchers have shown empirically that integer ...

Apart from an early case report from China (13th century), the first observations on insects and other arthropods as forensic indicators were documented in Germany and France during mass exhumations in the 1880s by Reinhard, who is considered a co-founder of the discipline. After the French publication of Mégnin's popular book on the applied aspects of forensic entomology, the concept quickly spread to Canada and United States. At that time, researchers recognized that the lack of systematic observations ...

The 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of azomethine ylides with DMAD in supercritical carbon dioxide is reported. The photolysis reaction conditions were optimized with a suitable adjustment of pressure, temperature, irradiation time and co-solvent concentration leading to a more efficient reaction than in neat acetonitrile. Similar results were observed using thermal reaction conditions. Supercritical carbon dioxide with a minute co-solvent addition is shown to be a very efficient medium for promoting ...

Several approximation algorithms with proven performance guarantees have been proposed to find approximate solutions to classical combinatorial optimization problems. However, theoretical results may not reflect the experimental performance of the proposed algorithms. As a consequence, a question arises: how "far" from the theoretically proved performance are the experimental results? We conduct a controlled empirical study of approximation algorithms for the Vertex Cover and the Set Covering Problems. ...

Blowflies utilize discrete and ephemeral breeding sites for larval nutrition. After the exhaustion of food, larvae begin dispersing in search of sites to pupate or additional food sources, a process referred as postfeeding larval dispersal. Some of the most important aspects of this process were investigated in the blowfly Chrysomya albiceps, employing a circular arena to allow radial dispersion of larvae from the center. The results showed a positive correlation between burial depth and distance, ...

Abstract The gene encoding the Drosophila protein phosphatase 2A 55 kd regulatory subunit (PR55) is located at 85F and directs the synthesis of differentially spliced transcripts. Maternal RNAs are present at very high levels in early embryos and decline around cellularization. Zygotic transcripts are present mainly in the developing embryonic nervous system and gonads. Transcripts are uniformly distributed in third instar larval discs and testes and at lower levels in the proliferative centers of the brain. ...

Fingerprints have two fundamental characteristics that allow human identification in an unequivocal way, uniqueness, and immutability. Due to these characteristics, they have been used as a tool in the criminal sphere, producing elements that indicate the presence of one or more suspects at a crime scene. Latent fingerprints are invisible to the naked eye and require prior treatment to be developed. Latent fingerprint developers are important because they react with the organic or inorganic secretions ...

In this work we propose a $\mathbb{Z}_N$ clock model which is exactly solvable on the lattice. We find exotic properties for the low-energy physics, such as UV/IR mixing and excitations with restricted mobility, that resemble fractonic physics from higher dimensional models. We then study the continuum descriptions for the lattice system in two distinct regimes and find two qualitative distinct field theories for each one of them. A characteristic time scale that grows exponentially fast with $N^2$ ( ...

We derive an effective field theory for a type-II fracton starting from the Haah code on the lattice. The effective topological theory is not given exclusively in terms of an action; it must be supplemented with a condition that selects physical states. Without the constraint, the action only describes a type-I fracton. The constraint emerges from a condition that cube operators multiply to the identity, and it cannot be consistently implemented in the continuum theory at the operator level, but ...
