Gefitinib, an epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitor, might improve the effects of methotrexate. We assessed the efficacy of oral gefitinib with methotrexate, versus methotrexate alone, to treat tubal ectopic pregnancy. We performed a multicentre, randomised, double-blind, ...

Abstract Introduction Evidence regarding recommendations for treatment of ballistic fractures remains limited. This paucity of literature has largely been attributed to gunshot wound victims being a difficult population to study secondary to loss to follow-up. The purpose of this study was to examine the epidemiology of operatively treated ballistic femur fractures at our institution, the frequency of outpatient follow-up and risk factors for loss to follow-up. Methods Inpatient consults from 2013-2018 ...

Background There is recent interest exploring the possible impact of sleep disordered breathing on the mechanisms of preeclampsia. A biomarker of preeclampsia, soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1, has come to prominence in recent years. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between continuous positive airway pressure treatment, sleep disordered breathing and soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1 concentrations during pregnancy. Methods A 38-year-old G1P0 presented at 20 + 5 weeks. ...

This report, prefaced by a brief history of Pluscarden Priory, and by a description of the church, describes excavations on the western side of the Priory. Features investigated include the western end of the nave, a series of burials, a stone-lined pit containing a rich organic deposit, and walls associated with the medieval monastic complex. Measurements and Results:Simultaneous PSG and Sonomat recordings were made in 62 subjects; 2 were excluded due to a poor nasal flow recording in PSG. There were positive correlations between the two devices for measures of sleep time, respiratory events, and the AHI (all correlations > 0.89). Bland-Altman analysis of the AHI showed positive agreement between devices, particularly at levels around common diagnostic thresholds. The mean difference in AHI values was 1.4 events per hour, and at a diagnostic ...

While recent meta-analyses suggest that OSA elevates daytime blood pressure (BP), most studies have included patients with mild hypertension, so CPAP treatment has only reduced BP by 2-3 mm Hg. To determine the strength of the OSA-BP relationship, this study examined the effect of CPAP in a cohort where severe OSA and under-treated hypertension coexist.Baseline demographic and sleep study data were recorded in 221 consecutive patients referred for sleep studies in Samoa. OSA was treated with CPAP ...
