Trace element to Ca ratios in speleothems have emerged as important proxies that reflect local environmental conditions. However, interpretations of speleothem trace element records can be challenging due to various processes. Positive correlations between speleothem Mg/Ca and Sr/Ca have often been interpreted to reflect prior calcite precipitation (PCP), a process potentially modulated by rainfall variability. For quantitative interpretation of PCP, the distribution coefficients for Mg and Sr (DMg ...

Plastic overproduction and the resulting increase in consumption has made plastic pollution ubiquitous in all ecosystems. Recognizing this, the United Nations (UN) has started negotiations to establish a global treaty to end plastic pollution, especially in the marine environment. The basis of the treaty has been formulated in terms of turning off the tap, signaling the will to prevent plastic pollution at its source. Based on the distribution of plastic production by sector, the plastic packaging ...

Abstract A new six‐membered cyclic frustrated phosphane/borane Lewis pair was liberated from its HB(C 6 F 5 ) 2 adduct by treatment with vinylcyclohexane. The system is an active frustrated Lewis pair that undergoes cycloaddition reactions with suitable π reagents and it splits dihydrogen. At room temperature in solution the new compound is a monomer, however, in the crystal and in solution at low temperature it aggregates to a thermodynamically favoured supramolecular macrocyclic cyclooctamer.

The active six-membered cyclo-FLP 6 undergoes a rapid P/B addition reaction to carbon dioxide. At elevated temperature, the resulting heterobicyclo[2.2.2]octane derived product 7 undergoes ring opening and equilibrates with the cyclotetramer (7)4 . In the large macrocyclic structure, four monomeric six-membered cyclo-FLP units are connected by four CO2 molecules to form the supramolecular ring system. The P/B cyclo-FLP 6 undergoes a variety of additional cycloaddition reactions.

All three [(C6F5)3B]2-semiquinone radical anion salts were characterized by X-ray diffraction. Abstract Pervasive in Nature, the propane unit is an essential component of numerous bioactive molecules. These range from acyclic systems, such as the neurotransmitter γ‐aminobutyric acid, through to the bicyclic nuclei of various chromanes and dihydrobenzofurans. In the latter case, cyclisation via cyclic ether formation ensures a highly pre‐organised structure, whilst linear scaffolds display more dynamic conformational behaviour resulting from rotation about the two internal C(sp 3 )–C(sp 3 ) bonds. ...

Background Macrophages have recently become attractive therapeutics in cancer immunotherapy. The potential of macrophages to infiltrate and influence solid malignancies makes them promising targets for the chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) technology to redirect their stage of polarization, thus enhancing their anticancer capacities. Given the emerging interest for CAR-macrophages, generation of such cells so far mainly depends on peripheral blood monocytes, which are isolated from the respective donor ...

Ischemia reperfusion injury (IRI) is a form of sterile inflammation whose severity determines short- and long-term graft fates in kidney transplantation. Neutrophils are now recognized as a key cell type mediating early graft injury, which activates further innate immune responses and intensifies acquired immunity and alloimmunity. Myocardial injury leads to an irreversible loss of cardiomyocytes (CM). The implantation of human engineered heart tissue (EHT) has become a promising regenerative approach. Previous studies exhibited beneficial, dose-dependent effects of human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC)-derived EHT patch transplantation in a guinea pig model in the subacute phase of myocardial injury. Yet, advanced heart failure often results from a chronic remodeling process. Therefore, from a clinical standpoint it is ...
