Abstract Introduction An animal model of late‐onset Alzheimer's disease is needed to research what causes degeneration in the absence of dominant genetic insults and why the association cortex is particularly vulnerable to degeneration. Methods We studied the progression of tau and amyloid cortical pathology in the aging rhesus macaque using immunoelectron microscopy and biochemical assays. Results Aging macaques exhibited the same qualitative pattern and sequence of tau and amyloid cortical pathology ...

To determine antepartum and postpartum serum heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) levels in pre-eclamptic (PE) and normotensive pregnant women and to investigate the relationship between HO-1 levels and severity of PE.Ten normotensive women were compared to 9 women with mild PE and 12 women with severe PE. Serum HO-1 levels were measured at 30-34 gestational weeks and 12-14 weeks postpartum. The severe PE group had significantly higher serum HO-1 levels antepartum compared to the mild PE and normotensive groups ( ...

Abstract The postnatal maturation of the GABAergic innervation of the rat inferior olive was studied with an antiserum to glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD), the GABA‐synthesizing enzyme. GAD‐positive axons were present at a very low density in the periolivary and interlamellar regions of newborn rats, as well as in certain precise areas of the lamellae, at the mediodorsal limit. The immature distribution indicates that the GABAergic projections reach the inferior olive shortly before birth and that ...

Abstract Albumin and globulin fractions have been isolated from Phaseolus mungo grown in West Pakistan, by methods involving buffer extraction and salt precipitation. The fractions have been analysed by paper electrophoresis in veronal buffer (pH 8.6) and in acetate buffers (pH 3·61 and 4·35) Two of the globulin fractions each yielded one broad zone on electrophoresis in veronal buffer and three to six zones in the acetate buffers. Staining for ester‐linked phosphorus showed the presence of reactive ...

We report the first evidence for the formation of the "607- and 580-nm forms" in the cytochrome oxidase aa3/H2O2 reaction without the involvement of tyrosine 280. The pKa of the 607-580-nm transition is 7.5. The 607-nm form is also formed in the mixed valence cytochrome oxidase/O2 reaction in the absence of tyrosine 280. Steady-state resonance Raman characterization of the reaction products of both the wild-type and Y280H cytochrome aa3 from Paracoccus denitrificans indicate the formation of six- ...

A series of diorganotin(IV) and triorganotin(IV) derivatives of monothiocarboxylate and xanthate ligands, as well as several mixed-ligand diorganotin(IV) derivatives resulting from combinations of monothiocarboxylate, xanthate or N,N-dimethyldithiocarbamate ligands were prepared and studied. The structures of these complexes were discussed in the light of i.r. and 1H NMR spectra. From an exhaustive study of the i.r. spectra of the new compounds, in relation to the i.r. spectra of some other monothiocarboxylate ...

Increasing global environmental pollution due to heavy metal ions raises the importance of research on new multifunctional materials for simultaneous detection and removal of these contaminants from water resources. In this study, we report a microporous 8-connected Zr4+ metal-organic framework (MOF) based on a terephthalate ligand decorated with a chelating 2-picolylamine side group (dMOR-2), which shows highly efficient fluorescence sensing and sorption of heavy metal cations. We demonstrate by ...

Familial hematuria is a clinical sign of a genetically heterogeneous group of conditions, accompanied by broad inter- and intrafamilial variable expressivity. The most frequent condition is caused by pathogenic (or likely pathogenic) variants in the collagen-IV genes, COL4A3/A4/A5. Pathogenic variants in COL4A5 are responsible for the severe X-linked glomerulopathy, Alport syndrome (AS), while homozygous or compound heterozygous variants in the COL4A3 or the COL4A4 gene cause autosomal recessive AS. ...

Corrosiveness is one of the main drawbacks of using the iodide/triiodide redox couple in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Alternative redox couples including transition metal complexes have been investigated where surprisingly high efficiencies for the conversion of solar to electrical energy have been achieved. In this paper, we examined the development of a DSSC using an electrolyte based on square pyramidal oxidovanadium(IV/V) complexes. The oxidovanadium(IV) complex (Ph4P)2[VIVO(hybeb)] was ...
