A CMOS dB-linear variable gain amplifier (VGA) with a novel I/Q tuning loop for dc-offset cancellation is presented. The CMOS dB-linear VGA provides a variable gain of 60 dB while maintaining its 3-dB bandwidth greater than 2.5 MHz. A novel exponential circuit is proposed to obtain the dB-linear gain control characteristics. Nonideal effects on dB linearity are analyzed and the methods for improvement are suggested. A varying-bandwidth LPF is employed to achieve fast settling. The chip is fabricated ...

... system suitable for characterization of extended, low-pressure dc or microwave plasmas has been developed around a VAXStation 3200 graphics workstation computer. Both planar and cylindrical probes have been constructed, but the latter has been deemed more satisfactory, and its design developed more fully. A novel interface circuit based on fast high voltage, transformer-coupled, isolation amplifiers has been constructed to permit probing of regions where the plasma potential is hundreds of volts away from ground, which are typically found in dc glow discharges. This circuit also incorporates a noise ...

Novel amplifier design techniques are presented for reducing dc power consumption in wireless PAN transceivers. A CMOS VGA cell is implemented by combining two independent gain control circuits to obtain 40dB and 50dB (dB-linear) gain ranges at 250µW and 1.75mW, respectively. A 260µW, 1GHz CMOS LNA is designed by using an unrestrained subthreshold bias technique to improve linearity. It has a measured gain of 13.6dB, a noise figure of 4.6dB and an IIP3 of 7.2dBm. An inductor-less RF VGA cell, based ...
