Experiments on the pyrolysis of C2H2/Ar and C6H6/Ar mixtures with addition of H2, O2, and CH4 have been carried out behind reflected shock waves at temperatures ranging from 1400 to 2600 K. Soot formation was measured by laser extinction at 633 nm. Time-resolved temperature measurements were performed via two-color CO absorption on the P(8) and R(21) lines at 2111.54 and 2191.50 cm-1 using quantum-cascade lasers. For this purpose, 0.5–0.8% CO was added to the gas mixtures. The measured temperature ...

The experiments were performed to investigate the influence of the flame suppressants CCl4, CF3H, and C2F4Br2 on the ignition of hydrogen–oxygen, acetylene–oxygen and methane–oxygen mixtures behind shock waves. The temperature dependencies of the ignition delay times and temperature profiles in the induction zone were measured. The experiments show that CCl4 and C2F4Br2 inhibit the ignition of hydrogen and acetylene and promote the ignition of methane. The influence of CF3H on the inhibition is ...

The influence of quantum effects on the processes of initiation of combustion and detonation of hydrogen and acetylene near the low-temperature limits at elevated pressures is analyzed. A theoretical consideration which allows quantification of the quantum corrections to the rate constants of endothermic reactions associated with an increase in the high-energy tail of the equilibrium momentum distribution function at high pressures is presented. This quantum effect is caused by a manifestation of ...

In a recent paper (Eremin et al., 2017), the authors investigated the opposing influence of various fire suppressants based on the differences in the effects of halogenated hydrocarbons on the ignition of various combustible mixtures. It was shown that all of the additives do not suppress, but some accelerate the ignition of methane/oxygen mixtures. At the same time, these additives suppress the ignition of hydrogen/oxygen mixtures, and the suppression efficiency increases from fluorine to chlorine ...

In this work the laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) method was used to study the formation of polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the pyrolysis of benzene C6H6 and dimethyl ether C2H6O (DME) mixtures diluted with argon behind reflected shock waves within a temperature range of 1300–2000 K and pressures of 3.5–5.7 bar. To monitor the volume fraction of the condensed phase, laser extinction at a wavelength of 633 nm at the temperature range 1600–2500 K was measured. The LIF spectra of PAHs formed at varying ...

The pyrolysis kinetics of CCl4 behind reflected shock waves was studied with high-repetition-rate time-of-flight mass spectrometry. For modeling, quantum mechanical calculations were performed to evaluate the dissociation energies of CCl bonds for the different CClx (x = 1 to 4) radicals. Good agreement with the JANAF thermochemical table was found. With the reaction mechanism developed for CCl4 decomposition satisfactory agreement with experimental results was obtained. The investigations show the ...

The notion of equilibrium soot nanostructure was introduced by Hurt et al., who argued that the peculiar turbostratic carbon structure is an equilibrium arrangement of lamellar, graphene-like molecules. It was proposed that the typical, onion-like internal structure of primary soot particles can be satisfactorily described by thermodynamic principles. There are two main objectives of this paper. First, the effects of oxidation pressures above atmospheric pressure on soot nanostructure are investigated ...
