Asheelia Behari,

Current labour legislation provides employees with three days’ family-responsibility leave for the care of their family. This means that fathers of new-born babies must rely on the provision of three days of family-responsibility leave, if they wish to take time off from work after the birth of a new baby. Alternatively, fathers will have to use annual leave on the birth of a baby. Paternity leave is exclusively offered to the working father as time off work immediately after the birth of his child, ...

Miriam Brown Spiers,

In this article I will examine an unusual queer relationship, as represented by comics artist Alison Bechdel, best known for her strip Dykes to Watch Out For . While the fatherdaughter relationship is a common literary theme, it becomes more complicated in Bechdel's graphic memoir Fun Home , which depicts two generations simultaneously struggling with issues of gender identity. Alison's ability to lead a queer lifestyle exists in sharp contrast to the way that her father, Bruce, has handled his homosexuality. ...

Sharon Sassler, Desirée Ciambrone, Gaelan Benway,

This article explores how living with parents affects the ways emerging adults construct their self‐identity. Data are from in‐depth interviews with 30 young adults who returned to live with their origin family after a period of residential autonomy. Respondents perceive adulthood as a psychological state, attained through a process of assuming responsibility for one’s actions and learning how to interact with other adults (particularly parents) from a position of equality. Nonetheless, an economic ...

Victoria G. Holloway, Rashpal K. Dhensa‐Kahlon, T. Alexandra Beauregard,

Uptake of Shared Parental Leave (SPL) in the UK remains poor, with fewer than 2% of eligible fathers utilising the policy since its introduction in 2015. With limited extant research addressing the policy, reasons behind the low level of uptake remain unclear. Specifically, the role of work (family supportive organisation perceptions [FSOP]) and gender-related factors (perceived social identity threat and traditional gender role orientation) in men's attitudes towards SPL have been largely overlooked. ...
