Abstract We examined adults with untreated Burkitt lymphoma (BL) from 2009 to 2018 across 30 US cancer centers. Factors associated with progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were evaluated in univariate and multivariate Cox models. Among 641 BL patients, baseline features included the following: median age, 47 years; HIV+, 22%; Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) performance status (PS) 2 to 4, 23%; >1 extranodal site, 43%; advanced stage, 78%; and central nervous system (CNS) ...

A study is presented of the molecular dynamics and of the viscosity in pure [Aliquat][Cl] ionic liquid and in a mixture of [Aliquat][Cl] with 1% (v/v) of [Aliquat][FeCl4]. The (1)H spin-lattice relaxation rate, R1, was measured by NMR relaxometry between 8 and 300 MHz. In addition, the translation self-diffusion, D, was measured by pulse field gradient NMR. The ILs' viscosity was measured as a function of an applied magnetic field, B, and it was found that the IL mixture's viscosity decreased with increasing ...

A proton nuclear magnetic relaxation dispersion (1)H NMRD study of the molecular dynamics in mixtures of magnetic ionic liquid [P66614][FeCl4] with [P66614][Cl] ionic liquid and mixtures of [P66614][FeCl4] with dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) is presented. The proton spin-lattice relaxation rate, R1, was measured in the frequency range of 8 kHz-300 MHz. The viscosity of the binary mixtures was measured as a function of an applied magnetic field, B, in the range of 0-2 T. In the case of DMSO/[P66614][FeCl4] ...

The implementation of a duplex process, which combines plasma nitriding with hard coatings obtained by cathodic arc, on stainless steel substrates has faced adhesion problems that affected the wear and corrosion behavior of the treated surfaces. One variation of the cathodic arc process, which could improve the adhesion, is its combination with plasma ion implantation. This work presents results of the wear and corrosion behavior of duplex TiTiN bilayer coatings obtained by cathodic arc deposition ...

In the past decade, neurosurgery in Uganda experienced increasing surgical volume and a new residency training program. Although research has examined surgical capacity, minimal data exist on the patient population treated by neurosurgery and their eventual outcomes in sub-Saharan Africa.Patients admitted to Mulago National Referral Hospital neurosurgical ward over 2 years (2014 and 2015) were documented in a prospective database. In total, 1167 were discharged with documented phone numbers and thus ...

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is considered the most common cause of dementia in older people. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) Aβ1-42, Aβ1-40, total Tau (t-Tau), and phospho Tau (p-Tau) are important biomarkers for the diagnosis, however, they are highly dependent on the pre-analytical conditions. Our aim was to investigate the potential influence of different storage conditions on the simultaneous quantification of these biomarkers in a fully-automated platform to accommodate easier pre-analytical conditions ...

Administration of propofol, the most frequently used intravenous anesthetic worldwide, has been associated with several iatrogenic infections despite its relative safety. Little is known regarding the global epidemiology of propofol-related outbreaks and the effectiveness of existing preventive strategies. In this overview of the evidence of propofol as a source of infection and appraisal of preventive strategies, we identified 58 studies through a literature search in PubMed, Embase, and Lilacs ...

Examining the early stages of coalition formation and how they may react to rapid institutional changes provides insight into how like-minded policy actors pursue their goals and coordinate their behavior in relatively unstable institutional systems. This study observes activity in the policy subsystem of hydraulic fracturing (fracking) in the southern Argentinian province of Neuquén. Using media sources, we identify policy actors, their support or opposition to the expansion of unconventional oil ...

Peptide hormones are powerful regulators of various biological processes. To guarantee continuous availability and function, peptide hormone secretion must be tightly coupled to its biosynthesis. A simple but efficient way to provide such regulation is through an autocrine feedback mechanism in which the secreted hormone is “sensed” by its respective receptor and initiates synthesis at the level of transcription and/or translation. Such a secretion–biosynthesis coupling has been demonstrated for ...

Background We studied the transmission of rotavirus infection in households in peri-urban Ecuador in the vaccination era. Methods Stool samples were collected from household contacts of child rotavirus cases, diarrhea controls and healthy controls following presentation of the index child to health facilities. Rotavirus infection status of contacts was determined by RT-qPCR. We examined factors associated with transmissibility (index-case characteristics) and susceptibility (household-contact characteristics). ...

Cloning and expression plasmids are the workhorses of modern molecular biology. Despite the pathway paved by synthetic biology, laboratories around the globe still relay on standard cloning techniques using plasmids with reporter proteins for positive clone selection, such as β-galactosidase alpha peptide complementation for blue/white screening or ccdB, which encodes for a toxic DNA gyrase. These reporters, when interrupted, serve as a positive clone detection system. In the present report, we ...

The high throughput characterization of protein N‐termini is becoming an emerging challenge in the proteomics and proteogenomics fields. The present study describes the free N‐terminome analysis of human mitochondria‐enriched samples using trimethoxyphenyl phosphonium (TMPP) labelling approaches. This article presents the design and evaluation of robust controllers, based on linear programming, Kharitonov's theorem and Chebyshev's theorem, in order to enhance the performance of a typical structure of multistage converters present in direct current (dc) systems. In such electric power distribution systems, point-of-load converters act as a constant power load (CPL), which introduces a destabilizing nonlinear effects to their supply bus voltage. The multistage converter system uses a simplified ...
