Abstract Background The reflux of noxious contents of the stomach may cause oesophageal and extra-oesophageal complications either by direct contact of aspirated gastric refluxate with the upper airway or by a vago-vagal reflex. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of gastroesophageal disease (GERD) and extraesophageal manifestations among undergraduate students in a tertiary institution in Nigeria. Methods This is a cross-sectional study involving undergraduate students in a private University ...

The development of Grey Wolf Optimisation (GWO) Algorithm was motivated by the biological behaviours of swarm of wolves hunting for prey. This paper presents recent progress on Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO) algorithm, its variants and their applications, issues, and likely prospects. The review revealed that opportunities still exists for development of more robust and stable variants of GWO that will overcome the shortcomings of existing variants. This review has the potential to stimulate researchers ...

The Northern Great Plains. Seasonal and extreme hydro-climatological events in the Northern Great Plains can have significant socio-economic impacts. Although a variety of precipitation datasets can be used for characterizing the hydro-climatological behavior of this region, much of our knowledge on precipitation variability among different products over this region comes from the coarse-scale evaluation studies for the whole Canada or CONUS, many of which may under-represent the performance of ...

This study examines the relationship between growth and employment in Nigeria to gain insights into the country's paradox of high economic growth alongside rising poverty and inequality. The methodology adopted is the Shapley decomposition approach, complemented with econometric estimation of the country's employment intensity of growth. The findings indicate that Nigeria's growth over the last decade has been 'jobless' and sustained largely by factor reallocations rather than productivity enhancement. ...

This study determines how political institution (factor) and oil prices play a significant role in exchange rate instabilities in Nigeria between and . Employing a VECM model with time series and structural analysis, the study decomposes the oil prices into positive and negative shocks. The findings show a symmetric impact from positive and negative oil shocks while political/institutional factor, on the contrary, indicates an asymmetric impact on exchange rates. The study, therefore, recommends that ...

Hydroxyapatite (HAp) has been found to be incompetent as it relates to its mechanical integrity, which somewhat restricts its use for load-bearing clinical applications. Several studies have been conducted doping HAp with foreign elements in order to enhance its mechanical integrity. However, it has been established that foreign elements usually trade off the phase structure and biological integrity of HAp. To avoid this challenge, this study presents a numerical analysis with the aim to fabricate ...

Protein structure prediction is very vital to innovative process of discovering new medications based on the knowledge of a biological target. It is also useful for scientifically exposing the biological basis of convoluted diseases and drug effects. Despite its usefulness, protein structure is very complex, thereby making its prediction to be arduous, timewasting and costly. These drawbacks necessitated the need to develop more effective techniques with high prediction capability. Conventional ...
