In Brief OBJECTIVE: To examine the impact of surgical staging of patients presenting with grade 1 endometrial cancer. METHODS: The charts of all patients who presented for surgery for endometrial cancer between March 1997 and July 2003 were analyzed for demographic data, final tumor histology, grade, stage, and complications. RESULTS: A total of 349 patients underwent surgical management for endometrial cancer. Preoperatively, 181 (52%) were identified with grade 1 disease, with a mean age of 61 ...

Background Roughly a third of patients with rheumatoid arthritis treated with biological treatments receive them as monotherapy. Tocilizumab—an inhibitor of interleukin 6 receptor signalling—has been studied as monotherapy in several clinical trials. We assessed the efficacy and safety of tocilizumab monotherapy compared with adalimumab monotherapy for patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Methods We did this randomised, double-blind, parallel-group, phase 4 superiority study in 76 centres in 15 countries ...

Background Angiopoietin 1 and 2 regulate angiogenesis and vascular remodelling by interacting with the tyrosine kinase receptor Tie2, and inhibition of angiogenesis has shown promise in the treatment of ovarian cancer. We aimed to assess whether trebananib, a peptibody that inhibits binding of angiopoietin 1 and 2 to Tie2, improved progression-free survival when added to carboplatin and paclitaxel as first-line therapy in advanced epithelial ovarian, primary fallopian tube, or peritoneal cancer ...

Two of these patients had prior lymphoproliferative disorders and developed MDS following prolonged therapy with alkylating agents. One of the patients with prior therapy history has two additional independent abnormal clones: one with a partial deletion of the long arm of #7 and the other with t(1;7)(q21;q11). New tools and concepts are needed to combat antimicrobial resistance. Actinomycetes and firmicutes share several eukaryotic-like Ser/Thr kinases (eSTK) that offer antibiotic development opportunities, including PknB, an essential mycobacterial eSTK. Despite successful development of potent biochemical PknB inhibitors by many groups, clinically useful microbiologic activity has been elusive. Additionally, PknB kinetics are not fully described, nor are structures with specific inhibitors available ...

Abstract Summary: The transport of ligands, ions or solvent molecules into proteins with buried binding sites or through the membrane is enabled by protein tunnels and channels. CAVER Analyst is a software tool for calculation, analysis and real-time visualization of access tunnels and channels in static and dynamic protein structures. It provides an intuitive graphic user interface for setting up the calculation and interactive exploration of identified tunnels/channels and their characteristics. ...

Interleukin-35 (IL-35) is a heterodimeric member of the IL-12 family consisting of p35/IL-12a and EBI3/IL-27b subunits. Expressed in murine Treg cells, IL-35 controls inflammatory diseases in mouse models. However, human IL-35 is expressed in Teff cells rather than in Treg cells and is shown to be upregulated under inflammatory conditions. Our aim was to examine the involvement of IL-35 in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Immunohistochemical and immunofluorescence analysis was used to ...

Objective . Progranulin (PGRN) is implicated in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between PGRN and disease activity in RA. Methods. PGRN levels were evaluated in patients with RA ( n = 47) and OA ( n = 42) and healthy controls ( n = 41). Immunohistochemical analysis of PGRN in synovial tissues was performed. The association between PGRN and C‐reactive protein (CRP), disease activity score (DAS28‐CRP), and health assessment questionnaire (HAQ) was studied. ...

Abstract S100A11 (calgizzarin), a member of S100 family, is associated with several autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) are implicated in the pathogenesis of RA and in the externalization of some S100 family members. Therefore, we aimed to determine the association between S100A11 and NETs in RA. For this purpose, the levels of S100A11 and NETosis markers were detected in the RA synovial fluid by immunoassays. Abstract The current rapid development of technologies enables new procedures for deformation and the detecting of construction defects and their modelling and monitoring in BIM. New instruments were developed for fast and sufficiently accurate mapping like personal mobile laser scanners (PLS). In the world of photography, the size of camera sensors is bigger, and the photographs are sharper. The rapid development of computer performance enables automatic and complex calculations, which lead to large ...

Abstract We examined the net-ecosystem-exchange (NEE)-based annual carbon-balance estimates obtained from eddy-covariance (EC) measurements at an unmanaged sedge-grass marsh ecosystem (Třeboň, Czech Republic, 49°1′ N, 14°46′ E), seeking methods to improve the EC measurements in inhomogeneous environment. The data filtering procedure was developed using three thresholds: (a) a stationarity test; (b) a stability $${u}_{*}$$ u ∗ -threshold; and (c) a high relative humidity RH -threshold. This procedure was tested ...

Abstract Light use efficiency (LUE) models are widely used to simulate gross primary production (GPP). However, the treatment of the plant canopy as a big leaf by these models can introduce large uncertainties in simulated GPP. Recently, a two‐leaf light use efficiency (TL‐LUE) model was developed to simulate GPP separately for sunlit and shaded leaves and has been shown to outperform the big‐leaf MOD17 model at six FLUX sites in China. In this study we investigated the performance of the TL‐LUE model ...

Respiratory infections are a threat to health and economies worldwide, yet the basis for striking variation in the severity of infection is not completely understood. Environmental exposures during development are associated with increased severity and incidence of respiratory infection later in life. In adult animals, AHR activation alters CD4(+) T cells ...

The aim of the paper is to evaluate the possibilities of evaluating sustainable development in regions based on the 2030 Agenda, and in particular to identify issues that need more attention. Our interest is focused on issues with compiling CIs for a small number of regions with limited available data. The article offers a critical discussion of various methods of aggregation, which are derived from the respective level of compensability, robustness, and sensitivity of the results.

Superfluid helium-4 is characterized by extremely small values of kinematic viscosity, and its thermal conductivity can be huge, orders of magnitude larger than that of water or air. Additionally, quantum vortices may exist within the fluid. Therefore, its behavior cannot be explained by using the classical tools of Newtonian fluid mechanics, and, over the years, a few alternative models have been proposed. In order to highlight similarities and differences between these models, we recast them within ...

The time evolution governed by the Boltzmann kinetic equation is compatible with mechanics and thermodynamics. The former compatibility is mathematically expressed in the Hamiltonian and Godunov structures, the latter in the structure of gradient dynamics guaranteeing the growth of entropy and consequently the approach to equilibrium.
