The aim of the study was to assess the relationship of external and internal training load (TL) indicators with the objective and subjective fatigue experienced by fifteen semi-professional football players, over 8 complete weeks of the competition period in the 2015-2016 season, which covered microcycles from 34th to 41st. The maximum heart rate (HRmax) and maximum speed (Vmax) of all the players were previously measured in specific tests. The TL was monitored via questionnaires on perceived exertion ( ...

Abstract Electronic applications of large-area graphene films require rapid and accurate methods to map their electrical properties. Here we present the first electrical resistance tomography (ERT) measurements on large-area graphene samples, obtained with a dedicated measurement setup and reconstruction software. The outcome of an ERT measurement is a map of the graphene electrical conductivity. The same setup allows to perform van der Pauw (vdP) measurements of the average conductivity. We characterised ...

The purpose of this study was to investigate the structure of interrelationships among external (eT) and internal (iT) training intensity metrics and how these vary depending on game format in soccer. The variables were collected from 16 semi-professional players in seven types of small, medium, large-sided, and simulated games (SG). The eT variables were (per min): peak velocity (Vmax), total distance (DTmin), distance covered at velocities less than 60% (D < 60%min), between 60 and 80% (D > 60%min), and more ...

The reliability of analysis is becoming increasingly important as point-of-care diagnostics are transitioning from single-analyte detection toward multiplexed multianalyte detection. Multianalyte detection benefits greatly from complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) integrated sensing solutions, offering miniaturized multiplexed sensing arrays with integrated readout electronics and extremely large sensor counts. The development of CMOS back end of line integration compatible graphene field- ...

Toxicity evaluation for the proper use of graphene oxide (GO) in biomedical applications involving intravenous injections is crucial, but the GO circulation time and blood interactions are largely unknown. It is thought that GO may cause physical disruption (hemolysis) of red blood cells. The aim of this work is to characterize the interaction of GO with model and cell membranes and use this knowledge to improve GO hemocompatibility. We have found that GO interacts with both neutral and negatively ...

Cocaine is a well-known drug of abuse which, when ingested nasally or by smoking, undergoes a number of biotransformation and degradation reactions. In the present work, a synthetic analogue of the cocaine metabolite benzoylecgonine was prepared and used as a template molecule in the preparation of a series of molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs). Molecularly imprinted solid-phase extraction (MISPE) conditions were established under which benzoylecgonine in aqueous samples could be selectively extracted ...

Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) is the paradigm of curable disease. This study analyzed the overall survival (OS) of patients with HL and compared their survival between decades and with the expected survival of a general population. The median follow-up was 22 years. The median OS was 33 years. The incidence mortality rate for all causes is 2 per every 100 patients per year. The OS of our cohort at 10 years from diagnosis was 76% (95% CI: 72-79) and 52% at 30 years (95% CI: 48-57). Overall SMR (1980-2013) was ...

The significant progress in terms of fabricating large-area graphene films for transparent electrodes, barriers, electronics, telecommunication and other applications has not yet been accompanied by efficient methods for characterizing the electrical properties of large-area graphene. While in the early prototyping as well as research and development phases, electrical test devices created by conventional lithography have provided adequate insights, this approach is becoming increasingly problematic ...

Abstract Graphene has become the focus of extensive research efforts and it can now be produced in wafer-scale. For the development of next generation graphene-based electronic components, electrical characterization of graphene is imperative and requires the measurement of work function, sheet resistance, carrier concentration and mobility in both macro-, micro- and nano-scale. Moreover, commercial applications of graphene require fast and large-area mapping of electrical properties, rather than ...

We demonstrate wafer-scale, non-contact mapping of essential carrier transport parameters, carrier mobility (µdrift), carrier density (Ns), DC sheet conductance (σdc), and carrier scattering time (τsc) in CVD graphene, using spatially resolved terahertz time-domain conductance spectroscopy. σdc and τsc are directly extracted from Drude model fits to terahertz conductance spectra obtained in each pixel of 10 × 10 cm2 maps with a 400 µm step size. σdc- and τsc-maps are translated into µdrift and Ns maps ...

Radial fretting is defined as the damage caused by the relative motion of a ball under a variable normal load. The conducted experimental tests proved the existence of this damage even in contacting bodies with similar materials and elastic properties; however, the reviewed analytical methods do not predict damage under these conditions, and the numerical methods are time-consuming, especially when the investigation requires the analysis of several loading cases or during large number of cycles. ...

Selective laser ablation of a wafer-scale graphene film is shown to provide flexible, high speed (1 wafer/hour) device fabrication while avoiding the degradation of electrical properties associated with traditional lithographic methods. Picosecond laser pulses with single pulse peak fluences of 140 mJ cm−2 for 1064 nm, 40 mJ cm−2 for 532 nm, and 30 mJ cm−2 for 355 nm are sufficient to ablate the graphene film, while the ablation onset for Si/SiO2 (thicknesses 500 μm/302 nm) did not occur until 240 ...

The ability of graphene to transduce an adsorption event of ions into a detectable electrical signal has sparked a lot of interest for its use in sensors. However, a low concentration of the chemically active sites for binding analytes on the graphene surface has significantly prevented its applications so far. Pitch control movements in wind turbines are commonly short and slow. Moreover, some operating conditions may result in no pitch movement for large time periods. Variable loads coming from wind and the own weight of the blades will turn into micro-oscillations at ball to raceway contact as consequence of ring and contact deformations. Control oscillating movements have been extensively studied in literature. However, no research has been found relating motionless operating point with wear and false ...

Rotational fretting is defined as the localised wear produced in a reciprocating rolling motion of low amplitude. The current techniques used for the analysis of this damage are reduced to experimental tests, which involve high costs in specimens and equipment, and to simulation through finite element (FE) models, which involves high mesh density in contact zones and thus drastically increases the computational cost. The main objective of this work is to develop an analytical model for the analysis ...

Small reciprocal movements in bearings can cause wear damage at the contact between the rolling elements and the raceway due to fretting phenomena. This damage is also called false brinelling or fretting corrosion, attending to lubrication conditions and causes vibrations and noisy operation, finally resulting in the need for the replacement of the component. Previous works from the literature have focused on experimental analyses of the damage and methodologies to simulate the occurrence of this ...

Breast milk (BM) is a nutritive fluid that is rich in bioactive components such as hormones and cytokines that can shape the newborn's feeding habits and program the newborn's immature immune system. BM components can change under different scenarios that include maternal body mass index (BMI) and premature birth. This study aimed to study the interaction of premature status or maternal obesity on the hormonal and cytokine profile in BM according to the sex of the offspring.

Graphene metrology needs to keep up with the fast pace of developments in graphene growth and transfer. Terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) is a non-contact, fast, and non-destructive characterization technique for mapping the electrical properties of graphene. Here we show several case studies of graphene characterization on a range of different substrates that highlight the versatility of THz-TDS measurements and its relevance for process optimization in graphene production scenarios.

This analysis considers a reduced symmetry model and the implementation of the friction energy model as wear damage indicator. This ...
