Lithium-rich spinel oxide has been synthesized in a long-term low temperature sintering process via the intermediate defected phase. Synchrotron X-ray diffraction studies under pressure have been performed on Li4Mn5O12, and some similarity of its behavior under compression to that of LiMn2O4 has been demonstrated. Li4Mn5O12 reveals a bulk modulus value of K0 = 118(1) GPa, and K0′ = 4.5(3) GPa. This value is far below 200 GPa, which is typical of most spinel oxides. The local compressibility of LiO4 ...

Abstract In this paper, a differential microfluidic sensor and comparator based on a pair of microstrip lines loaded with dumbbell-shaped defected ground structure resonators is applied to the characterization of electrolyte concentration in samples of horse urine. Since variations in the total electrolyte content in urine may be indicative of certain pathologies, the interest is to use the device as a comparator, in order to determine changes in the electrolyte concentration as compared to a reference ...

This paper proposes and validates a new principle in coplanar waveguide (CPW) bandstop filter tuning by shortcutting defected ground plane (DGS) inductor shaped spirals to modify the resonant frequency. The tunable filter is fabricated on a high-resistivity silicon substrate based on a CMOS compatible technology using a 1 μm x 10 μm long and 300 nm thick vanadium oxide (VO 2 ) switch by exploiting its insulator to metal transition. The filter is designed to work in Ka band with tunable central frequencies ...

In this work, a microstrip patch antenna with an inset feed and defected ground structure (DGS) is designed at the resonant frequency of 2.45 GHz. The antenna is designed on a FR-4 substrate with a dielectric constant, εr of 4.5, loss tangent, tan δ of 0.019 and thickness, h of 1.6 mm. The technique of DGS is used to avoid the use of additional circuits in the antenna to suppress the harmonics. By introducing a single and additional slots DGS at both ends on the antenna ground plane, the proposed ...

Proper narrowband antenna design for wearable devices in the biomedical application is a significant field of research interest. In this work, defected ground structure-based microstrip patch antenna has been proposed that can work for narrowband applications. The proposed antenna works exactly for a single channel of ISM band. The resonant frequency of the antenna is 2.45 GHz with a return loss of around -30 dB. The -10dB impedance bandwidth of the antenna is 20 MHz (2.442-2.462 GHz), which is the ...

The aim of this paper is to use defected ground structures (DGS) in order to miniaturize a microstrip patch antenna. The DGS structure is integrated in the ground plane to improve the performance of the planar antenna, and shifted the resonance frequency from 5.8 GHz to 2.5 GHz, with a miniaturization up to 83%. The antenna is designed, optimized, and miniaturized by using the CST MW-studio, mounted on an FR-4 substrate having a dielectric constant 4.4, a loss tangent tan (ɸ)=0.025, thickness of 1. ...

The aim of this work is the achievement, and the validation of a small microstrip patch antenna array using a circular shaped dumbbell defected ground structure. This work has been dividing into two stages: The first step is to miniaturize a microstrip patch antenna resonating at 5.8GHz, which operate in the Industrial Scientific Medical band (ISM) and the second is to use a circular defected ground structure to shift the resonance frequency of the antenna array from 5.8GHz to 2.45GHz. This paper presents the design of a compact bandpass filter based on two identical rectangular resonators and is implemented on microstrip technology for Wi-Fi and bluetoothapplications. To reduce the size of the filter, the defected microstrip structure (DMS) technique is proposed. This technique consists of etching slots in the rectangular resonator, which results in a change in the line properties and increase of the effective inductance and capacitance. This feature is used for miniaturization. ...

... mobile phone provider, we rely on call detail records to investigate the churn behavior of 3,431 focal actors. We provide evidence for social interactions in customer churn decisions and show that, at any given point in time, a focal actor is significantly and substantially more likely to defect from a provider if other individuals to whom that actor is socially connected have previously defected from the provider. Yet, this effect is limited ...
