The importance of conducting substance use disorder treatment research in real-world settings is now well recognized. While this approach to clinical trials research offers a variety of benefits, challenges also arise. Selecting high-quality sites to participate is critical to recruitment, retention, and overall trial performance when conducting multi-site, community-based clinical trials of treatments for substance use disorders.Over the past 10 years, the National Institute on Drug Abuse-sponsored ...

Because cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) inhibition is a potential HDL-raising therapy, interest has been raised in the mechanisms and consequences of CETP activity. To explore these mechanisms and the dynamics of CETP in vitro, a mechanistic mathematical model was developed based upon the shuttle mechanism for lipid transfer. Model parameters were estimated from eight published experimental datasets, and the resulting model captures observed dynamics of CETP in vitro. Simulations suggest ...

ABSTRACT In this paper we consider the nexus existing between returning transnational migrants to Trinidad and Tobago's adaptation experiences, matters pertaining to their transnational life‐paths, family and community experiences and their views on transnationalism and return. The research is based on an analysis of the detailed narratives provided by forty informants by means of semi‐structured interviews. The informants consisted of nine ‘second‐generation’, seven ‘one‐and‐a‐half‐generation’ and ...

The potential for non‐point‐source pollution of surface waters from agricultural lands continues to be a concern. Our objective was to determine the effect of surface residue management and fertilizer application timing in regards to soil moisture conditions on nutrient losses in runoff. Studies were conducted using a rainfall simulator that applied 125 mm h −1 for 3 h to an Austin (Udorthentic Haplustoll) clay soil. Soil surface residue treatments were chisel tillage with no added corn ( Zea mays L.) ...

Most comparisons of flood frequency estimation methods have been based on Monte Carlo simulation. An alternative method which does not require the choice of a parent distribution is to resample from the historical record. The relative performance of 10 flood frequency estimation methods, including four at‐site methods, four regional index flood methods, and two variations of the U.S. Water Resources Council regional method, was evaluated using a resampling method. Performance measures were based ...
