Es wirdleine Klasse von unendlichdimensionalen normierten Räumen untersucht, die eine differentialgeometrisch natürliche Verallgemeinerung der endlichdimensionalen Minkowskiräume bilden. Als unendlichdimensionale Finslerräume werden differenzierbare Mannigfaltigkeiten mit solchen verallgemeinerten Minkowskiräumen als Tangentialräumen bezeichnet. Die Grundlagen für die Differentialgeometrie dieser Räume werden entwickelt.

The fundamental role of infinitely small quantities for his teaching of the calculus was underlined by Cauchy himself in the introduction to his Cours d'analyse of 1821 and in the announcements of his later textbooks. Es wird eine Kennzeichnung der Räume mit pythagoreischer Metrik angegeben, welche über die Ergebnisse von Helmholtz und Weyl insofern hinausgeht, als außer dem euklidischen und Riemannschen Raum der klassischen und relativistischen Physik auch die quadratische Metrik im quantenmechanischen Zustandsraum erfaßt wird. Die Kennzeichnung beruht auf einem Isotropiepostulat, das im Zustandsraum in die Forderung der Gleichberechtigung aller Zustände vor der Beobachtung übergeht.
