This analysis examines the relationship between legal reform and social norms surrounding homosexuality. We document three main findings. First, about a fifth of the variation in individual preferences can be explained at a country level. Second, using a difference-in-differences strategy, legalizing homosexuality improves how individuals view the tone of their communities. Third, we provide further evidence supporting a legal origins argument by examining former colonies. Countries that were colonized ...

This work demonstrates a green method for the encapsulation of a natural phase change material (PCM), lauric acid (LA), in polystyrene (PS) hollow fibers through a solvent-assisted diffusion process inside fiber nanochannels. The obtained LAPS composite fibers had a melting enthalpy of up to 147.8 J/g, which was 82.0% the heat storage capacity of pristine LA (180.2 J/g). This capacity was higher than the values (generally less than 60%) reported in the literature. The LA content in the composite fibers ...

The central fact that has motivated the empirics of economic growth—namely unconditional divergence—is no longer true and has not been so for decades. Across a range of data sources, poorer countries have in fact been catching up with richer ones, albeit slowly, since the mid-1990s. This new era of convergence does not stem primarily from growth moderation in the rich world but rather from accelerating growth in the developing world, which has simultaneously become remarkably less volatile and more ...

However, data reporting on the risk of developing radiation necrosis (RN) are limited. The thermal performance of an asymmetric single-turn closed-loop pulsating heat pipe (aCLPHP) has been investigated experimentally. In an asymmetric closed-loop, the working fluids may exhibit a consistent two-phase oscillatory-circulatory flow as a direct consequence of the capillary pressure difference. The adiabatic channels of different cross-sections will cause a pressure difference, boosting the flow of heated vapor and liquid. So, a novel aCLPHP of 208 mm with an evaporator of 35 mm length ...

At the core of value-based learning is the nucleus accumbens (NAc). D1- and D2-receptor-containing medium spiny neurons (MSNs) in the NAc core are hypothesized to have opposing valence-based roles in behavior. D2 MSNs were evoked by both cues and outcomes, were dynamically changed with learning, and tracked valence- ...
