University students experience stress, and how they cope with this stress affects their academic achievement. This study examined stress in teacher education students and had three objectives: to describe different degrees of stress and coping styles; to study the relationship between stress, coping strategies and academic achievement; and to examine whether increased age can moderate the effects of stress on academic achievement in 334 university-students. There were three main findings: many students ...

Academic performance is a fundamental factor in the quality of higher education, but there are no conclusive results regarding how certain variables affect it. Some studies find differences attributable to gender, age, or coping strategies, but others conclude that they are insignificant. This article seeks to deepen about how these variables influence the performance of trainee primary-school teachers. It analyses academic progress in a sample of 136 students and the effect of gender, age and coping ...

Traditional methods to measure spatio-temporal variations in biomass rely on a labor-intensive destructive sampling of the crop. In this paper, we present a high-throughput phenotyping approach for the estimation of Above-Ground Biomass Dynamics (AGBD) using an unmanned aerial system. Multispectral imagery was acquired and processed by using the proposed segmentation method called GFKuts, that optimally labels the plot canopy based on a Gaussian mixture model, a Montecarlo based K-means, and a guided ...

Transcript and metabolite levels were determined at the different time points considered. Under photorespiratory active conditions, the ...

The electrocatalytic activity of metal phthalocyanines is controlled by their coordination chemistry and their ability to bind the reacting molecules as extra-planar ligands. This chemistry is controlled by the nature of both the metal and the ligand, the latter affecting the electron density located on the metal, which is the active site. In this work we have examined the electrocatalytic activity of several Co phthalocyanines having electron-donating or electron-withdrawing substituents on the ...

Children in the Peruvian Amazon Basin are at risk of soil-transmitted helminths (STH) infections. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of STH infection in children from a rural Amazonian community of Peru and to elucidate epidemiological risk factors associated with its perpetuation while on a school-based deworming program with mebendazole. Stool samples of children aged 2-14 years and their mothers were analyzed through direct smear analysis, Kato-Katz, spontaneous sedimentation in tube, ...

The ecology of bat assemblages in savanna ecosystems is poorly known. Studies on this subject are scarce in the Colombian Orinoquía; some authors have argued that this region shows a low diversity of bat species relative to other natural regions of Colombia, which contrasts with reports for other Neotropical savannas. In order to broaden the knowledge about bat assemblages in savanna ecosystems in Colombia, we evaluated the alpha (local) and beta (species turnover) diversities in three savanna ecosystems ...

Significance Snake venoms are toxic protein cocktails used for prey capture. To investigate the evolution of these complex biological weapon systems, we sequenced the genome of a venomous snake, the king cobra, and assessed the composition of venom gland expressed genes, small RNAs, and secreted venom proteins. We show that regulatory components of the venom secretory system may have evolved from a pancreatic origin and that venom toxin genes were co-opted by distinct genomic mechanisms. After co- ...

This work focuses on the effect of microstructure on high cycle fatigue of Q&P steels and microstructural evolution during cyclic loading.
