Using the two-scale convergence method, we study the asymptotic behavior of a wave problem in ℝ N with periodic coefficients in the space variable and almost-periodic coefficients in the time one. We obtain a nonlocal corrector and show how this implies that the limit problem is nonlocal in general.

The small fields in radiotherapy are widely used due to the development of techniques such as intensity-modulated radiotherapy and stereotactic radio surgery. The measurement of the dose distributions for small fields is a challenge. A perfect dosimeter should be independent of the radiation energy and the dose rate and should have a negligible volume effect. The radiochromic (RC) film characteristics fit well to these requirements. However, the response of RC films and their digitizing processes ...

This article aims to identify the factors that influence the digital transformation process in the restaurant industry. The proposed theoretical framework differentiates three groups of conditioning factors of digitalisation in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in this sector: (1) the personal characteristics of the entrepreneurs/managers; (2) the characteristics of the businesses; and (3) the spatial location of the restaurants. The data used in the empirical research were compiled from a representative ...

A putative polyploid seedling tree appeared among the polyembryonic mango ( Mangifera indica L.) `Gomera-1', widely used as a rootstock in the Canary Islands. Initially detected because of its wider and more coriaceous leaves, further studies showed that fruit from this seedling are considerably larger than normal, although all other fruit characteristics (including polyembryony) were similar to those of standard `Gomera-1' (G-1) fruit. The progeny of this plant has, to date, proved to be morphologically ...

Abstract Seven borehole cores were analysed to reconstruct the Pleistocene evolution of the Pego-Oliva Basin (Mediterranean coast, Iberian Peninsula). A total of 295 samples were recovered for amino acid racemization (AAR) dating, and 77 samples for sedimentological, palaeontological and biomarker determination, with two objectives: (1) to establish a chronological framework (especially for Middle Pleistocene); and (2) to obtain data on the palaeoenvironment. AAR proved that the record covers approximately ...

Line-pair resolution phantoms are used to determine the spatial resolution of medical imaging systems. In some cases, these phantoms are used to determine the maximum number of line-pairs per mm that the system can resolve. In other cases, a numerical determination of the modulation transfer function (MTF) is carried out by means of the analysis of the variance of ROIs on the image. In this note, a new procedure is implemented to calculate the presampled MTF of an imaging system.Images of a commercial ...

Some optimization problems can be tackled only with metaheuristic methods, and to obtain a satisfactory metaheuristic, it is necessary to develop and experiment with various methods and to tune them for each particular problem. The use of a unified scheme for metaheuristics facilitates the development of metaheuristics by reutilizing the basic functions. In our proposal, the unified scheme is improved by adding transitional parameters. Those parameters are included in each of the functions, in such ...

Abstract The synthesis of several peptidic bonds (Tyr-Leu, Tyr-Gly and Tyr-Ala) was carried out in organic-aqueous media under kinetically controlled conditions. Insolubilized α-chymotrypsin on agarose was used as catalyst. A 60%–70% yield in peptide was obtained using 20% DMF, pH = 10 and temperature 25 °C. The influence of several organic solvents in the catalytic activity of the enzyme was analyzed. The influence of the pH was studied. pH>8 favours the synthesis of peptide. Serial femtosecond crystallography (SFX) is a powerful technique that exploits X-ray free-electron lasers to determine the structure of macro-molecules at room temperature. Samples requiring liquid injection of crystal slurries consume large quantities of crystals (at times up to ...
