Although all disabilities are unquestionably challenged in undue ways, this perspective is meant to draw special attention to those with visual impairment. COVID-19 is extremely contagious and has spread globally with unprecedented rapidity. The best current countermeasures ...

Stephanie C. Goodhew, Mark Edwards,
Scientists have long been interested in understanding the influence of emotionally salient stimuli on attention and perception. One experimental paradigm that has shown great promise in demonstrating the effect of such stimuli is emotion-induced blindness. That is, when emotionally salient stimuli are presented in a rapid stream of stimuli, they produce impairments in the perception of task-relevant stimuli, even though they themselves are task irrelevant. This is known as emotion-induced blindness, ...

Good's theorem is the apparent platitude that it is always rational to 'look before you leap': to gather (reliable) information before making a decision when doing so is free. We argue that Good's theorem is not platitudinous and may be false. And we argue that the correct advice is rather to 'make your act depend on the answer to a question'. Looking before you leap is rational when, but only when, it is a way to do this. 1. Introduction2. Good's Theorem3. Inexact Observation4. Independence5. Conditionality ...

Couples and family counselors are in a position to aid in the remedy of sexual dysfunction when it has a cognitive or psychological basis. One important source of sexual dysfunction is cognitive distraction that results from certain forms of self-focus during sexual activity with a partner, a phenomenon sex therapists have labeled spectatoring. I briefly describe the various ways such self-consciousness is associated with sexual dysfunction and the vicious cycle that often results. I also introduce ...
