Water stress is one of the main limiting factors for soybean crop development, and it may increase due to subsurface soil acidity. The use of agricultural gypsum is a way to improve the soil’s chemical conditions at depth and mitigate the undesirable effects caused by water restriction during drought periods. This study aimed to evaluate whether gypsum application increases soybean yield in water restriction conditions. The experiment was implemented in 2018 in a Humic Cambisol, Southern Brazil. ...

This study investigated the effect of gaseous ozone (O3) on the chemical and microbiological properties of whole-plant corn silage. Conducted on a commercial dairy farm in Brazil, maize was ensiled in experimental bag silos and treated with varying levels of O3 (0%, 1.25%, 3.12%, 4.15%, and 6.25%). The findings revealed minimal nutrient losses in starch, non-fiber carbohydrates, crude protein, and total digestible nutrients compared to untreated fresh maize. O3-treated silages exhibited increased ...

Abstract Riparian ecosystems are suffering anthropogenic threats that reduce biodiversity and undermine ecosystem services. However, there is a great deal of uncertainty about the way species composition of assemblages is related to ecosystem function, especially in a landscape fragmentation context. Here, we assess the impact of habitat loss and disturbance on Functional Diversity ( FD ) components Functional Redundancy ( FR ed), Functional Evenness ( FE ve), and Functional Richness ( FR ic) of riparian ...

Increased synthesis of galactinol and raffinose family oligosaccharides (RFOs) has been reported in vegetative tissues in response to a range of abiotic stresses. In this work, we evaluated the transcriptional profile of a Coffea canephora galactinol synthase gene (CcGolS1) in two clones that differed in tolerance to water deficit in order to assess the contribution of this gene to drought tolerance. The expression of CcGolS1 in leaves was differentially regulated by water deficit, depending on the ...

Their elastic modulus ranges between 50 and 62 GPa. The results for optical properties suggest that qHPC$_{60}$ can act as UV collectors for photon ...

The bacterium Rickettsia bellii has been detected in 25 species of ticks in the American continents, but its pathogenic potential is considered as undetermined. A possible role for this species in the phenomenon of transovarial exclusion of pathogenic members of the spotted fever group (SFG) of Rickettsia has been suggested and co-infections with pathogenic species have been reported infrequently in both North and South America. The wealth of bioactivity information now available on low-molecular weight compounds has enabled a paradigm shift in chemical biology and early phase drug discovery efforts.
