... All three lakes were surveyed by day and night with the echo sounder acoustic beam oriented both vertically and horizontally. Vertical beaming, due to the hydroacoustic blind-zone, detected little fish activity close to the surface of the lakes. When beaming horizontally, particularly at night, large number of fish were observed near the surface of all the lakes. The range obtained when beaming horizontally was 50–100 m. Vertical beaming was shown to underestimate the presence of fish by 20–100%, supporting the conclusion that horizontal beaming is a critical factor in compiling accurate fish stock assessments in lakes. Echo sounding data were in agreement with catch data ...

VHF radar measurements have been made for 32 days in the summer polar mesosphere at Andenes (69°N, 16°E) in Northern Norway. For specific time intervals a significant correlation between wave‐induced velocity oscillations and corresponding echo power variations has been found. The observed waves in the velocity field, which are also present in the temperature field, occasionally appear in ...

A. R. Webster, Thomas Kaiser, L. M. G. Poole,
The results of radio-echo observations of the Geminid meteor shower during 1962 December and 1963 December are presented. In addition to the expected Geminid shower an additional peak in activity, indicating a second active radiant, was observed during the 1962 encounter. Radio magnitude distributions in the range +8.3 m to +6.8 m were determined as a function of solar longitude for meteors associated with both the true Geminid radiant and the second active radiant. The experimental data are presented ...

Thomas Kaiser, L. M. G. Poole, A. R. Webster,
The results of observations of the Perseid meteor shower during 1962 August are presented, and an attempt has been made to interpret the observed activity in terms of a radiant model comprising an intense discrete centre of activity, and a more diffuse component. The distribution in radio-magnitude in the range +8.4 to +6.8 m of the shower meteors has been studied as a function of solar longitude, and significant systematic variations, especially for the discrete component are indicated.

The results of radio-echo observations of the Quadrantid meteor shower between 1964 and 1971 are presented. Radio magnitude distributions in the range |$+6\cdot05^\text{m}\,\text{to}\,+7\cdot55^\text{m}$| were determined as a function of solar longitude. A magnitude distribution index, s, of |$1\cdot 64\,\pm\,0\cdot 06$| was found. The position of the ascending node of the stream was found to be |$282\cdot{55}^{^{\circ} }\,\pm\,0\cdot 03^{^{\circ} }$| and the width of the shower (to half maximum activity) to be |$ ...
