1 We have used fluorescence confocal laser scanning microscopy to attain the three-dimensional (3-D) microstructure of perimysial collagen fibres over the range of sarcomere lengths (1.9–2.3 μm) in which passive force of cardiac muscle increases steeply. 2 A uniaxial muscle preparation (right ventricular trabecula of rat) was used so that the 3-D collagen configuration could be readily related to sarcomere length. Transmission electron microscopy showed that these preparations were structurally homologous ...

[Formula: see text] Introduction: Heterotopic ossification (HO) is the formation of lamellar bone within connective and other tissue where bone should not form and is a rare complication after burn injury. However, it leads to severe pain and distress, marked reduction in joint range of motion (ROM), impaired function and increased hospital length of stay. The pathophysiology, incidence and risk factors of HO remain poorly understood in burns and other traumas and the management, controversial. The ...

This article traces past research on the application of the systems approach to information systems development within the disciplines of information systems and software engineering. Their origins historically are related to a number of areas, including general systems theory. While potential improvement of software development practices is linked by some leading experts to the application of more systemic methods, the current state of the practice in software engineering and information systems ...

The explosion of social networking sites has not only changed the way people communicate, but also added a new dimension to the way for searching or investigating people. As users share a wide variety of information on social networking sites, concerns are growing about organisations’ access to personally identifiable data and users are increasingly worried about privacy on social network sites. The main threat with data gathering is not only from where gathering it, but also where it goes afterwards. ...

Abstract There is an increasing interest for 90 Y for radionuclide therapy. However, radioimmunotherapy, one of the most important applications for 90 Y, demands a very high purity product. Obtaining a high quality 90 Y is difficult not only because of the complex and time consuming production schemes but also because of the quality control which has challenging tasks like the determination of 90 Sr at very low concentrations. The present paper investigates a reported purification procedure for ...

We explore the possibility to perform symmetry restoration with the variation after projection technique on a quantum computer followed by additional post-processing. The final goal is to develop configuration interaction techniques based on many-body trial states pre-optimized on a quantum computer. We show how the projection method used for symmetry restoration can prepare optimized states that could then be employed as initial states for quantum or hybrid quantum-classical algorithms. We use ...

West Edmonton Mall (wem) is an internationally known shopping mall I leisure complex comprising approximately 4 million sq. ft. of leasable retail and service space. It contains more than 600 shops, plus a hotel and leisure and recreational facilities that are unmatched in any previous shopping centre. The superimposition of a single, massive development on a pre‐existing urban structure has created both opportunities and problems for Edmonton, while the emergence of such an urban phenomenon, unprecedented ...

Edgar Andres Ruiz Guzman, Denis Lacroix,

We present a new method to perform variation after projection in many-body systems on quantum computers that does not require performing explicit projection. The technique employs the notion of ``oracle'', generally used in quantum search algorithms. We show how to construct the oracle and the projector associated with a symmetry operator. The procedure is illustrated for the parity, particle number, and total spin symmetries. The oracle is used to restore symmetry by indirect measurements using a ...
