Further data are presented concerning the unusual hemodynamic effects of 1-hydrazinophthalazine. Previous observations demonstrating a marked increase in cardiac output in normotensive subjects are confirmed in hypertensive patients. The splanchnic vascular bed is one of the sites of increased blood flow. The similarity between the hemodynamic effects of 1-hydrazinophthalazine and pyrogens is pointed out and the pharmacologic basis for the clinically observed additive effects of 1-hydrazinophthalazine ...

Metal halide perovskite absorbers with wide bandgaps (1.6–1.7 eV) that are suitable for tandem devices typically require high Br concentrations; this renders the material prone to halide segregation and degradation. Inorganic, bromine-free CsPbI3 has a wide bandgap of 1.7 eV and does not suffer from halide segregation; however, these active layers are not stable at room temperature. Here, we report a method to create stable tetragonal perovskites with a bandgap near 1.7 eV: we add small amounts of ...

2D/3D heterojunction perovskite solar cells have demonstrated superior efficiency and stability compared to their fully 3D counterparts. Previous studies have focused on producing 2D layers containing predominantly n = 1 perovskite quantum wells. In this report we demonstrate a technique to introduce dimensional mixing into the 2D layer, and we show that this leads to more efficient devices relative to controls. Simulations suggest that the improvements are due to a reduction in trap state density ...

Impressive progress in halide perovskite solar cells motivates further work to improve operating stability. It is known that ion-migration-driven decomposition represents a degradation pathway in perovskite solar cells and that it can occur within the perovskite material even in well-encapsulated devices. Here we find that quasi-two-dimensional (2.5D) perovskites suppress this ion-migration-induced degradation. Using TOF-SIMS, we confirm that iodide migration occurs in bulk perovskite photovoltaic ...

The remarkable properties of metal halide perovskites arising from their impressive charge carrier diffusion lengths have led to rapid advances in solution-processed optoelectronics. Unfortunately, diffusion lengths reported in perovskite single crystals have ranged widely - from 3 μm to 3 mm - for ostensibly similar materials. Here we report a contactless method to measure the carrier mobility and further extract the diffusion length: our approach avoids both the effects of contact resistance and those ...

Metal halide perovskites exhibit outstanding optoelectronic properties: superior charge carrier mobilities, low densities of deep trap states, high photoluminescence quantum yield, and wide color tunability. The introduction of dopant ions provides pathways to manipulate the electronic and chemical features of perovskites. In metal halide perovskites ABX3, where A is a monovalent cation (e.g., methylammonium (MA+), Cs+), B is the divalent metal ion(s) (e.g., Pb2+, Sn2+), and X is the halide group (e. ...

Metal halide perovskites are rivaling established materials for thin film photovoltaics. Being able to tune interfacial alignment of energy levels may allow a further boost to the efficiency of perovskite optoelectronic devices. By using Density Functional Theory (DFT) modeling and experimental analysis, we show that the band edge energies of the prototypical MAPbI3 (MA = methylammonium) perovskite can in principle be varied by as much as 1 eV via postsynthetic chemical treatment. In particular, MAI- ...

The deployment of perovskite solar cells will rely on further progress in the operating and ambient stability of active layers and interfaces within these materials. Low-dimensional perovskites, also known as perovskite quantum wells (PQWs), utilize organic ligands to protect the perovskite lattice from degradation and offer to improve device stability; combining 2D and 3D perovskites in heterostructures has been shown to take advantage of the high efficiency of the majority 3D active layers and ...

INTRODUCTION: Inhibition of tumor growth factor-β (TGF-β) receptor type I potentiated the activity of sorafenib in preclinical models of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Galunisertib is a small-molecule selective inhibitor of TGF-β1 receptor type I, which demonstrated activity in a phase 2 trial as second-line HCC treatment. METHODS: The combination of galunisertib and sorafenib (400 mg BID) was tested in patients with advanced HCC and Child-Pugh A liver function without prior systemic therapy. Galunisertib ...

In tandem catalysis, two distinct catalytic materials are interfaced to feed the product of one reaction into the next one. This approach, analogous to enzyme cascades, can potentially be used to upgrade small molecules such as CO2 to more valuable hydrocarbons. Here, we investigate the materials chemistry of metal-organic framework (MOF) thin films grown on gold nanostructured microelectrodes (AuNMEs), focusing on the key materials chemistry challenges necessary to enable the applications of these ...
