HCV affects 185 million people worldwide and leads to death and morbidities. HCV has a high genetic diversity and is classified into seven genotypes and 67 subtypes. Novel anti-HCV drugs (Direct-Acting-Antivirals) eligibility, resistance and cure rates depend on HCV geno/subtype (GT).Analysis of epidemiological information and viral GT from patients undergoing viral genotyping in 2011-2015.Anonymized information from 52 centers was analyzed retrospectively.37,839 samples were included in the study. ...

This research aimed to assess the properties of biodegradable films prepared with lyophilized myofibrillar proteins (LMP) from fish filleting residues, fatty acids (stearic, palmitic, and caproic), and surfactant (SLS). The films were characterized to assess the effects of adding those components. Adding fatty acids and SLS resulted in more flexible films with higher elongation values compared to the LMP film. The films prepared with 5% stearic acid and 10% SLS and with 10% palmitic acid and 20% SLS ...

The bioconversion of protein from the fishing industry waste into bioplastics allows the valorization of biological material, reducing the production of waste and consequently of negative environmental impacts through the use of synthetic packaging. The objective of this work was to develop biodegradable films from the mixture of gelatin and myofibrillar fish proteins. Proteins (myofibrillar and gelatin) were extracted from filleting residues from king weakfish (Macrodon ancylodon) from industrial ...

Packaging plays an important role in maintaining quality over the shelf life of food. Thus, this study aimed to determine the best process conditions to create biodegradable films based on myofibrillar proteins from fish byproducts with appropriate technological properties: low water vapor permeability (WVP) and high tensile strength at break (TS) and elongation at break (E). In order to establish optimal conditions to produce the films, two experimental designs were employed. The Plackett-Burman fractional ...

Açaí oil (Euterpe oleracea) is a new active ingredient, originating from the Amazon Forest, which offers numerous benefits as an antioxidant and antimicrobial agent. Here, we report how açaí oil can be used as an active ingredient in gelatin coatings to increase the shelf life of tomatoes. The optimized viscosity and gel strength conditions were 5.40 % gelatin, 17.25 % açaí oil and 18 % plasticizer. FTIR, XRD and zeta potential analysis reveals that repulsive forces dominate the interactions between açaí ...

The myofibrillar proteins were characterized using electrophoretic analysis. The rheological analysis was done in the film solutions (FS) and in the composite films, which were evaluated using technological properties, thermogravimetry, x-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The Herschel-Bulkley and Bingham models described the dilating fluid behavior for FS, and the addition of fatty acids (FA) (stearic and palmitic) and glycerol significantly increased ...

Ribosomally synthesized and post-translationally modified peptides (RiPPs) are known for their macrocyclic structures, which impart unique biological activity. One rapidly emerging subclass of RiPP natural products contains macrocyclic C–C cross-links between two amino acid side chains. These linkages, often biosynthetically formed by a single rSAM or P450 enzyme, introduce significant structural and synthetic complexity to the molecules. While nature utilizes elegant mechanisms to produce C–C cross- ...

The objective was to evaluate the effect of glycerol on functional properties and sorption behavior of films elaborated with myofibrillar proteins of fish. Analyses of solubility, water vapor permeability (WVP), tensile strength (TS), elongation, and moisture sorption isotherms were performed. Films with lower glycerol concentrations (5, 10, and 15%) showed lower (p ≤ 0.05) permeability when compared to films with 30 and 40%. The increase in the glycerol concentration decreased the TS and increased the ...

Abstract Tropical cyclones (TC) often induce strong mixing in the upper ocean that generates a trail of cooler sea surface temperature (Twake) in their wakes. The Twake can affect TC intensity, so its prediction is important, especially in coastal regions where TCs can make landfall. Coastal Twakes are often more complex than those in the open ocean due to the influences of coastline geometry, highly variable water depth, continental runoff, and shelf processes. Using observational data since 2002, ...
