Abstract The growing concerns over the adverse effects of buildings on the environment and the need to achieve users’ thermal, visual, acoustic, spatial and indoor environmental air quality comfort have given rise to the demand for energy efficient buildings. This paper relied on a review of 36 articles published between 2007 and 2019 to identify and categorise energy efficiency design, planning and construction applicable to office buildings. The data were randomly selected using Science Direct ...

In Architecture, Engineering and other allied professional fields, the methods of assessment has for some decades been parametric. In an effort to carry out assessment for the grading of design works, the students have in many ways been confronted with bias, fear, intimidation, uncertainty, and mistrust from peers, studio teacher-instructors, observers, professional jurors, and other stakeholders involved within the process. The research employed a multi-stage stratified purposive sampling technique ...

Abstract An examination of the integrated relevant energy efficiency features is emergent to proffer amicable solutions into some tropical buildings and energy issues. This would go a long way to determine the registered thermal comfort levels enjoyable by the users, occupants and dwellers of such buildings. In this regard, great accountability is required on the part of the stakeholders, especially the Architect-designers. This study investigated the daylighting features engaged in the selected ...

Study was conducted on the effects of aqueous extract of extra-cotyledonous deposit of Pride of Barbados (Caesalpina pulcherrima) on some blood electrolytes and urea levels in rabbits. Rabbits used were of New Zealand strain and weighed between 1750 and 1900g. About 200ml of the aqueous extract were administered daily to the test rabbits orally through clean drinking troughs for a period of 28 days. Blood was obtained from rabbits intravenously through the larger veins at the back of the ear. Results ...

12020 Background: Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a common dose-limiting complication of cancer treatment that can negatively impact survival and quality of life. Cannabidiol (CBD) has been shown to attenuate CIPN in rodent models although its ability to reduce CIPN symptoms in humans is unexplored. Methods: A phase 3 randomized double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial was conducted between 6/1/2020 and 8/8/2022. Participants with nonmetastatic breast, colorectal, endometrial, ...

Hybrid nanocarriers have realized a growing interest in drug delivery research because of the potential of being able to treat, manage or cure diseases that previously had limited therapy or cure. Cancer is currently considered the second leading cause of death globally. This makes cancer therapy a major focus in terms of the need for efficacious and safe drug formulations that can be used to reduce the rate of morbidity and mortality globally. The major challenge encountered over the years with ...

Abstract Asymptomatic coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has been reported as a significant driver of COVID-19 outbreaks. Our hospital ward outbreak analysis suggests that comprehensive symptoms and signs assessment, in combination with adequate follow-up, allows a more precise determination of COVID-19 symptoms. Asymptomatic infection was quite uncommon among adults in this setting.

The binding properties of starch obtained from Lima bean (Phaseolus lunatus) were evaluated. The starch from the seeds was extracted and the binding ability of its mucilage compared with that of maize starch mucilage in paracetamol based tablets at concentrations of 0, 2.5, 5, 7.5 and 10% w/v. The following properties of the starch powders were evaluated; organoleptic properties, microscopy and reaction with iodine solution while for the paracetamol granules prepared with their mucilages; particle ...

A comparative study of granule flow enhancing property of bentonite, magnesium stearate, talc and microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) was undertaken. Bentonite was processed into fine powder. A 10 %w/w of starch granules was prepared and separated into different sizes (˂180, 180-500, 500-710 and 710-850 μm). Each granule size was divided into four parts. The four parts were treated with four different glidants (bentonite, magnesium stearate, talc and MCC) at different concentrations (0, 0.5, 1, 1.5 and 2 % ...
