Abstract. The main factor determining the possibility of using data obtained from social media as a source of information about the threat of emergencies is their relevance and accuracy. Thus, the important task is the determination of metrics for evaluating these parameters for a specific publication in a social media. It is worth noting the importance of this information channel as a source of eyewitness accounts from the scene. A comparison of social media data and official sources shows that ...

Abstract. Medical geography and medical cartography can be denoted as classical application domains for Geographical Information Systems (GISs). GISs can be applied to retrospective analysis (e.g., human population health analysis, medical infrastructure development and availability assessment, etc.), and to operative disaster detection and management (e.g., monitoring of epidemics development and infectious diseases spread). Nevertheless, GISs still not a daily-used instrument of medical administrations, ...

Abstract Inorganic anions were used as templates in the reaction between a diamine and an activated diacid to form macrocyclic amides. The reaction conditions were found to perform the macrocyclization sufficiently slow to observe a template effect. A number of analytical methods were used to clarify the reaction mechanisms and to show that the structure of the intermediate plays a decisive role in determining the product distribution. For the macrocyclization under kinetic control, it was shown ...

Abstract Receptors based on guanidinium‐ and pyrrole‐containing binding sites were designed and synthesized for selective recognition of orthophosphate in aqueous solution. Various analytical techniques were used to understand solution behavior and anion binding properties of the receptors in methanol and methanol/water mixtures. Binding studies revealed that the structure of pyrrole‐containing binding sites has great influence on selectivity of receptors for orthophosphate. The receptor with bulky ...

A highly electrical conductive multi-walled carbon nanotubes based polymer composite is fabricated by iodine doping. Selective localization of carbon nanotubes in polymethyl methacrylate was obtained by intensive dry mixing of polymer and nanotubes powders followed by hot pressing. The electrical conductivity of the materials was significantly increased (10–100%) when the composites were treated with iodine by the gas phase. The electrical conductivity of the materials was significantly increased ...

Amber is known as one of the best sources of fossil organisms preserved with exceptional fidelity. Historically, different methods of imaging have been applied to amber, including optical microscopy and microtomography. These methods are sufficient to resolve millimeter-scaled fossils. However, microfossils, such as microarthropods, require another resolution. Here, we describe a non-destructive method of super resolution confocal microscopy (sCLSM) to study amber-preserved microfossils, using a ...

Abstract. The paper discusses a problem of complex data application when accounting erosion network elements to study soil runoff and soil material redistribution on arable slopes. It is needed to estimate and account contribution of microrelief landforms to the sediment (washed out soil material) redistribution on arable areas to enhance accuracy of estimation of the soil runoff and accumulation. However, microrelief landforms are hardly detected on topographic maps and plans used traditionally ...

Mitochondrial ND8 gene is pan-edited in most known trypanosomatid species and 5′-edited only in a few trypanosomatid species. In this work, the ND8 nucleotide sequences from three species of insect trypanosomatids (“Wallaceina” sp. Wsd, Leptomonas rigidus and Leptomonas collosoma) were obtained and compared with previously known ND8 cryptogene sequences and mature mRNA sequences from other trypanosomatid species. We found a new pattern of editing: only 18 U residues are inserted in the 5′ region of ...

Cyclo[8]pyrrole, an octapyrrolic expanded porphyrin with no meso-linking atoms, was found to interact with a series of anions in the solid state and in a chloroform solution. The anion selectivities have been determined relative to a structurally characterised salt, H2cyclo[8]pyrrole2+·I− ·I3 − , via counter anion exchange. Although cyclo[8]pyrrole demonstrates a general selectivity for sulfate, it interacts well with both the pertechnetate and perrhenate anions. Moreover, it has been shown to act as ...

The kinetoplast genome contains several thousands of minicircles of various sequence classes and several scores of maxicircles. We demonstrated that maxicircles are heterogeneous in clonal cultures of Leishmania major, and, therefore, probably heterogeneous (heteroplasmic) within the kinetoplast. Sequence heterogeneity was observed in a non-coding fragment upstream of the 12S rRNA gene. We identified about 20 stable variants of this fragment, which were composed of one to five non-identical repeats ...

We examined three astigmatic mite specimens phoretic on the beetle Glesoconomorphus ekaterinae from Eocene Rovno amber. Due to the precious nature of this amber piece, housing the name-bearing holotype of the host beetle, traditional trimming for the application of high-resolution imaging techniques at small focal distances was unfeasible. To overcome this challenge, we employed a combination of confocal microscopy relying on the autofluorescence properties of the mite chitinous exoskeleton and ...

RNA editing by targeted insertion and deletion of uridine is crucial to generate translatable mRNAs from the cryptogenes of the mitochondrial genome of kinetoplastids. This type of editing consists of a stepwise cascade of reactions generally proceeding from 3' to 5' on a transcript, resulting in a population of partially edited as well as pre-edited and completely edited molecules for each mitochondrial cryptogene of these protozoans. Often, the number of uridines inserted and deleted exceed the ...

Maxicircles of all kinetoplastid flagellates are functional analogs of mitochondrial genome of other eukaryotes. They consist of two distinct parts, called the coding region and the divergent region (DR). The DR is composed of highly repetitive sequences and, as such, remains the least explored segment of a trypanosomatid genome. It is extremely difficult to sequence and assemble, that is why very few full length maxicircle sequences were available until now. Using PacBio data, we assembled 17 complete ...

Abstract Uridine insertion/deletion (U-indel) editing of mitochondrial mRNA, unique to the protistan class Kinetoplastea, generates canonical as well as potentially non-productive editing events. While the molecular machinery and the role of the guide (g) RNAs that provide required information for U-indel editing are well understood, little is known about the forces underlying its apparently error-prone nature. Analysis of a gRNA:mRNA pair allows the dissection of editing events in a given position ...

Abstract. The article describes the possibilities and advantages of using distributed systems in the processing and analysis of remote sensing data. The preparation and processing of various types of remote sensing data (multispectral satellite images, values of climatic indicators, elevation data), which will then be used to build a simulation model of a hydroelectric power plant, was chosen as the basic task for testing the chosen approach. The existing approaches with distributed processing of ...

Reactions of 3,4-diaryl-1H-pyrrol-2,5-diimines with various bisisocyanide palladium(II) complexes were studied. The coupling proceeds with one isocyanide ligand to accomplish the acyclic diaminocarbene complexes. The structure of generated diaminocarbene complexes depends on bulkiness of isocyanide ligand in the bisisocyanide complexes of palladium(II). The imino-group of 3,4-diaryl-1H-pyrrol-2,5-diimine reacts with one isocyanide ligand of cis-[PdCl2(CN–R)2] (R = i-Pr, Cy, t-Bu, Bn), and the nitrogen ...

Abstract In a broad variety of configurations in technology and industrial applications, the properties of liquid metal flows subjected to strong magnetic fields, are largely governed by the dynamics of coherent structures, known to settle several basic types, such as thin shear layers, forming near the walls or within the fluid domain, vortices extended along the field, or planar and round jets. In some cases, these structures are created by the design, like a submerged jet formed by a sudden expansion ...
