Abstract Zagatto, AM, Ardigò, LP, Barbieri, FA, Milioni, F, Dello Iacono, A, Camargo, BHF, and Padulo, J. Performance and metabolic demand of a new repeated-sprint ability test in basketball players: does the number of changes of direction matter? J Strength Cond Res 31(9): 2438–2446, 2017—This study compared 2 repeated-sprint ability (RSA) tests in basketball players. Both tests included 10 × 30-m sprints, with the difference that the previously validated test (RSA 2COD ) featured 2 changes of direction ( ...

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of ankle and hip muscle fatigue on motor adjustments (experiment 1) and symmetry (experiment 2) of postural control during a quiet standing task. Twenty-three young adults performed a bipedal postural task on separate force platforms, before and after a bilateral ankle and hip muscle fatigue protocol (randomized). Ankle and hip muscles were fatigued separately using a standing calf raise protocol (ankle fatigue) on a step and flexion and extension ...

An electrolyte supported solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) was continuously operated with hydrogen, methane, and bioethanol for nearly 400 hours without adding water, O2, or CO2, and delivering a rather stable power output. Such a fuel-flexible SOFC was achieved by using both an anodic catalytic layer, which efficiently converts the primary fuel into hydrogen, and by the operation in gradual internal reforming conditions, which prevented degradation due to carbon formation.

This report investigates the properties of nickel/gadolinium-doped ceria (Ni/GDC) as anode material for bio-ethanol fueled SOFC. The Ni/GDC cermets with 18 and 44 wt.% Ni were prepared by a hydrothermal method. Ethanol decomposition, steam reforming, and partial oxidation of ethanol were studied using a fixed-bed reactor at 1123 K. Carbon was formed only under dry ethanol for both catalysts. The addition of water or oxygen to the feed inhibited the formation of carbon. Ni/GDC was used as the anode ...

Abstract Despite the relevance of crowdfunding as a financing tool for underrepresented entrepreneurs, prior research pays scant attention to the funding gap for refugee entrepreneurs. Using a composite framework that integrates both entrepreneurship research and signalling theory, the current study investigates how microfinance institutions (MFIs) and refugee entrepreneurs can deploy signals to pursue entrepreneurial opportunities on digital platforms. The results, based on refugee data pertaining ...

The purpose of this study was to compare the kicking performance of young soccer players in the U9 to U20 age groups.Three hundred and sixty-six Brazilian players were evaluated on an official pitch using three-dimensional kinematics to measure (300 Hz) ball velocity (Vball), foot velocity (Vfoot), Vball/Vfoot ratio, last stride length, and distance between the support foot and the ball. Simultaneously, a two-dimensional procedure was also conducted to compute (60 Hz) the mean radial error, bivariate ...

This study investigated the effects of 12-week of specific futsal training on body composition, oxygen uptake (VO2max), anaerobic capacity, and agility of male semi-professional futsal players. Thirteen athletes were subjected to a 12-week program of specific training for futsal with the external load of sessions prescribed from rated perceived exertion. VO2max, agility, anaerobic index, and body composition were assessed before and after the 12-week training program. The main findings were that ...

Purpose: The aim of the present study was to investigate the influence of futsal match-related fatigue on running performance, neuromuscular variables, and finishing kick speed and accuracy. Methods: Ten professional futsal players participated in the study (age: 22.2 ± 2.5 years) and initially performed an incremental protocol to determine maximum oxygen uptake ([Formula: see text]: 50.6 ± 4.9 mL.kg-1.min-1). Next, simulated games were performed, in four periods of 10 min during which heart rate and blood ...

Accurate daily rainfall estimation is required in several applications such as in hydrology, hydrometeorology, water resources management, geomorphology, civil protection, and agriculture, among others. CMORPH daily rainfall estimations were integrated with rain gauge measurements in Brazil between 2000 and 2015, in order to reduce daily rainfall estimation errors by means of the statistical objective analysis scheme (SOAS). Early comparisons indicated high discrepancies between daily rain gauge ...

The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of the aqueous extract of Passiflora edulis leaves, which is a source of vitexin, isovitexin and isoorientin, was investigated in a 2,4,6-trinitrobenzenesulphonic acid induced colitis model. The oral intake of P. edulis extract (1100 µg mL−1) improved significantly (P < 0.05) the endogenous antioxidant status and decreased lipid peroxidation in serum, liver, and colon. The consumption of P. edulis extract decreased the level of pro-inflammatory in colon ...

ARE THE TRANSNATIONAL food and drink manufacturing, catering, and allied industries—whose bottom lines depend on pathogenic products—really planning to help control and prevent worldwide public health calamities? This seems to be what Yach et al., who all work for PepsiCo, are suggesting. They claim support from other companies who they say have “a vital role to play alongside governments, nongovernmental organizations, and academics in addressing nutrition.” We examine what this may mean.
