Mehmet A. Akgün,

A new family of mode-superposition methods for the computation of the forced response of proportionally damped systems with and without rigid body modes is investigated. The method may be considered to be an extension of the mode-acceleration method. It allows response calculations to be done with a very small subset of the modes of the system. Numerical examples are given for systems of order 20 and 40. Execution times and number of modes required for convergence are recorded. The particular order ...

Stephen C. Edberg, Daniel K. Clare, Marianne Moore, Jacques M. Singer,

Micro-ID is a new test system designed to identify members of the family Enterobacteriaceae in 4 h. It consists of 15 biochemical tests on reagent-impregnated paper disks; each test is in its own compartment in a molded plastic tray. Based on the pattern of positive and negative biochemical reactions, a five-digit octal code number is calculated. A computer-generated identification manual accompanies the product, and for each octal code listed there is a numerical value that represents the unknown isolate' ...

María A. Mayorca, Damian M. Vogt, Hans Mårtensson, Torsten Fransson,

A method is proposed for the determination of the aeroelastic behavior of a system responding to mode-shapes which are different from the tuned in vacuo ones, due to mistuning, mode family interaction, or any other source of mode-shape perturbation. The method is based on the generation of a data base of unsteady aerodynamic forces arising from the motion of arbitrary modes and uses least square approximations for the prediction of any responding mode. The use of a reduced order technique allows ...

The coupling vibration of the blisk system has recently become an important area of research. The literature review indicates that the coupled behavior in the blisk system induces conspicuous distribution properties of modal frequencies of the blade-dominated family. However, this distribution rules and its evolution mechanism have not been fully interpreted in previous research. Therefore, present study will carry out three aspects of research work: In the first part, an analytical method has been ...

Kamal Das, Hassan S. Ashour, John S. Loomis,

In the present work we have demonstrated a family of laser focusing doublets. All members of this family are diffraction limited and their optimal performance at He-Ne laser wavelength has been investigated. Laser focusing lenses are widely used for video and optical disk systems. They are usually small with high numerical aperture operating at single wavelength. They cover a small field of view, are diffraction limited, and nearly aplanatic. The present diffraction limited family consists of six ...

IT has long been known that even in a telescope which is theoretically perfect, the image of a luminous point is composed of a series of concentric circles with a bright patch of light at the common centre. This system of circles can easily be observed by examining any bright star with a telescope provided with a circular diaphragm which diminishes the effective aperture. The appearance of the image is shown in Fig. I, a. In the case of an object of finite angular magnitude the image could be constructed ...
