Abstract The clinical significance of gene fusions detected by DNA-based next generation sequencing remains unclear as resistance mechanisms to EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors in EGFR mutant non-small cell lung cancer. By studying EGFR inhibitor-resistant patients treated with a combination of an EGFR inhibitor and a drug targeting the putative resistance-causing fusion oncogene, we identify patients who benefit and those who do not from this treatment approach. Through evaluation including RNA- ...

Abstract The survival outcomes of the FLAURA trial support osimertinib as the new standard of care for untreated patients harboring activating mutations in the epidermal growth factor receptor ( EGFR ). Despite the initial response, disease progression invariably occurs. Although uncommon, BRAF V600E mutation arises as a unique mechanism of resistance, and thus far, no prospective studies are available to support concurrent EGFR/BRAF blockade. We report a case of impressive radiological and ctDNA response ...

Rubbers resulting from the hydrosilylation reaction between poly(methylsiloxane), and 1,3,5,7-tetramethyl-1,3,5,7-tetravinylcycletetrasiloxane, have been pyrolyzed to silicon oxycarbide ceramics, with ceramic yield varying as a function of the mixture composition. The rubber–ceramic conversion process was investigated by 13C and 29Si nuclear magnetic resonance and infrared spectroscopies, thermogravimetric analysis and density measurements. The composition of the ceramic products was determined ...

Abstract A polymeric precursor to SiC based on the mixture between poly(methylsilane) and tetra-allylsilane was prepared. The structural evolution by which this precursor system undergoes until its conversion to SiC was monitored by IR, Raman, 13C and 29Si MAS NMR spectroscopies, and by XRD techniques. Thermal and density measurements were also run. The role of the hydrosilylation reaction between SiH and CC moities on the ceramic conversion was also investigated.

Instruction on ethics for physicians and medical students is associated with the humanistic perspective required in medical training. In today’s world, teaching ethics and fostering humanism demands innovative solutions, inasmuch as teaching theory alone is not enough. The broad fi eld of human emotions opens up new and promising of possibilities for emotional education to support ethical training in a way that is consistent, modern and effi cient. This is the reason for using the humanities in ...

Abstract Background Reliable information about the spatial distribution of aboveground biomass (AGB) in tropical forests is fundamental for climate change mitigation and for maintaining carbon stocks. Recent AGB maps at continental and national scales have shown large uncertainties, particularly in tropical areas with high AGB values. Errors in AGB maps are linked to the quality of plot data used to calibrate remote sensing products, and the ability of radar data to map high AGB forest. Here we suggest ...

Climate change (CC) along with Land Use and Land Cover Change (LULCC) have a strong influence in water availability in already fragile Mediterranean ecosystems. In this work the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) was implemented for the 2006–2018 period in a rainfed catchment of central Chile (36°) to test the hypothesis that adaptive plantation strategies could mitigate the impacts of climate change and increase streamflow. We also hypothesize that afforestation with exotic tree plantations will ...

Morphometric methods permit identification of insect species and are an aid for taxonomy. Quantitative wing traits were used to identify male euglossine bees. Landmark- and outline-based methods have been primarily used independently. Here, we combine the two methods using five Euglossa. Landmark-based methods correctly classified 84% and outline-based 77%, but an integrated analysis correctly classified 91% of samples. Some species presented significantly high reclassification percentages when ...

Artificial habitats have become common in coastal areas worldwide and may influence the structure and functioning of benthic ecosystems. We analyze the influence of piers on the benthic morphofunctional groups of rocky seaweeds and of soft bottom macrofauna in the channel of Conceição Lagoon (southern Brazil). The effect of 17β-estradiol in the endometrium was blocked by phospholipase C (PLC) inhibitor (U73122), estrogen receptors antagonist (ICI 182,780), exportin CRM1 inhibitor (leptomycin B) and selective inhibitor of the SRC family of ...
