Ferrocenophane, in which the two ferrocene rings are linked by ester bonds and p-substituted benzene rings, has been synthesized by the reaction of hydroquinone with 1,1′-bis(chloroformyl)ferrocene. The structure of the compound has been studied on the basis of the NMR and electronic spectra.

Abstract Ferrocenylruthenocene reacts with sulfuric acid–NH4BF4 to give a mono-oxidized diamagnetic ferrocenylruthenocenium BF4− salt, while it reacts with p-benzoquinon–BF3(Et2O) to give a trioxidized paramagnetic ferrocenylruthenocenium (BF4−)3 salt.
