Yunhua Chen, Nicholas Ballard, Florence Gayet, Stefan A. F. Bon,

A convenient route to organogels templated by high internal phase emulsions has been developed. Key is the use of a waterborne polymer latex loaded with a multiple hydrogen bond (MHB) functionality that becomes disentangled and transfers across the oil-water interface forming a gel network in the oil phase via hydrogen bond interactions.

Background: Breastfeeding is a route of mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The World Health Organization recommends antiretroviral (ARV) prophylaxis as the best method to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV (PMTCT) during breastfeeding. The nipple shield delivery system (NSDS) is being developed as an accessible method to deliver ARVs to infants and PMTCT during breastfeeding. The NSDS can potentially circumvent hygiene and storage issues in delivering ...

ABSTRACT Coagulase-negative species of Staphylococcus are often associated with opportunistic hospital-acquired infections that arise from the colonization of indwelling catheters. Here we show that the antiparasitic drug nitazoxanide (NTZ) and its active metabolite, tizoxanide (TIZ), are inhibitory to the growth of Staphylococcus epidermidis and other staphylococci, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus strains, under aerobic and microaerobic conditions (MICs, 8 to 16 μg/ml). Abstract BACKGROUND: This paper examines the prevalence of cancer screening use as reported in 2005 among US adults, focusing on differences among historically underserved subgroups. We also examine trends from 1992 through 2005 to determine whether differences in screening use are increasing, staying the same, or decreasing. METHODS: Data from the National Health Interview Surveys between 1992 and 2005 were analyzed to describe patterns and trends in cancer screening practices, including Papanicolaou ...

Abstract Transcription factor NF-κB controls the expression of multiple genes involved in immunity and inflammation. The initial activation and duration of NF-κB signaling is regulated by posttranslational modifications to IκB kinase, which earmarks inhibitors of NF-κB for degradation. Prior studies suggest that K63-linked ubiquitination of NEMO (NF-κB essential modulator), an IκB kinase regulatory subunit, is critical for NF-κB and MAPK signaling following engagement of Ag receptors. We now demonstrate ...
