An updated checklist and a revised key to the males of Palaearctic species of the genus Medetera including all 180 species and 3 subspecies are provided; 27 species are included in the key for the first time. Medetera belgica Parent, M. bilineata Frey, M. kowarzi Negrobov, M. miki Negrobov, M. peloria Negrobov, M. sphaeropyga Negrobov, M. tarasovae Negrobov, and M. thunebergi Negrobov, stat. resurr., are removed from synonymy based on the differences in the male genitalia.

TLC of alcoholic extracts of the xylem of Ulmus hollandica "Belgica" infected with C. ulmi revealed three spots which were not detected when the same amount of extract of healthy wood was chromatographed. Two of these spots showed fungitoxic activity. Extracts of U. hollandica cl. 390 (resistant against Dutch elm disease) inoculated with C. ulmi contained the same compounds. Again the compounds were not detected in healthy wood. The two fungitoxic compounds have been isolated. They proved to be identical ...

Host responses of elms susceptible and resistant to Dutch elm disease were histologically examined. In a time course study the susceptible elm clone Ulmus × hollandica 'Belgica' and U. × hollandica '390', a clone which shows a high degree of resistance to non-aggressive isolates and a moderate degree of resistance to aggressive isolates of Ophiostoma ulmi , were inoculated in twig or trunk with either an aggressive or a non-aggressive isolate of O . ulmi . For purposes of comparison, the susceptible elm U . americana ...

At the same time pitfall trapping in old and young stands of beech and of spruce (390–500 m above sealevel) provided only N. lutescens with one exception. The distribution of both species which were hitherto not distinguished in most cases ...

Abstract The goldspotted oak borer Agrilus auroguttatus Schaeffer is an invasive pest of three Quercus species in southern California, U.S.A. As a native and potentially indigenous exotic species, its distribution and potential damage is largely unknown in Mexico. We used the maximum entropy algorithm to determine the bioclimatic variables that may explain the distribution of A. auroguttatus , as well as its interaction with the distribution of known hosts in Mexico. Our model calculated high suitability ...

The cactus moth, Cactoblastis cactorum (Berg) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae), is an invasive species in North America where it threatens Opuntia native populations. The insect is expanding its distribution along the United States Gulf Coast. In the search for alternative strategies to reduce its impact, the introduction of a natural enemy, Apanteles opuntiarum Martínez and Berta (Hymenoptera: Braconidae), is being pursued as a biological control option. To identify promising areas to intentionally introduce ...

Scolitine bark beetles of the genus Tomicus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Scolytinae) include some forestry pests of major importance worldwide, with the capacity for invading new habitats and threatening native forest populations and are considered as exotic species for America. However, Tomicus piniperda L. the common pine shoot beetle has invaded North America recently and specimens of T. minor Hart have been intercepted in the United States. The possibility for an invasion of Mexico grows day

Ecological Niche Models (ENM) are tools used to predict suitability, based on climatic variables selected and occurrence data of the target species, and characterize the environmental space. Sawflies (Hymenoptera: Diprionidae) are one of the main factors threatening forest health in Mexico, with cyclical population outbreaks and a wide range of hosts. In the present paper, we calculate the climatic niche in Mexico of three diprionids, Neodiprion abietis (Harris), N. omosus Smith, and Zadiprion rohweri ( ...
