We address model specification, parameter estimation, and model reliability for spatially explicit population models (SEPMs). We assume that these models have the complementary goals of understanding the processes that influence the number and distribution of animals in space and time, and forecasting the effect of management or other human activities on population abundance and distribution. Incorrect model structure, parameter estimates, or both will result in unreliable model output. Spatially ...

Falls in older people are common and can result in loss of confidence, fear of falling, restriction in activity and loss of independence. Causes of falls are multi-factorial. There is a paucity of research assessing the footwear characteristics among older people who are at high risk of falls, internationally and in the Irish setting. The aim of this study was to examine the proportion of older adults attending a geriatric day hospital in Ireland who were wearing incorrectly sized shoes.A consecutive ...

Abstract Introduction Frailty is associated with adverse outcomes among patients attending emergency departments (EDs). While multiple frailty screens are available, little is known about which variables are important to incorporate and how best to facilitate accurate, yet prompt ED screening. To understand the core requirements of frailty screening in ED, we conducted an international, modified, electronic two-round Delphi consensus study. Layered (oxy) hydroxide minerals often possess out-of-plane hydrogen atoms that form hydrogen bonding networks which stabilize the layered structure. However, less is known about how the ordering of these bonds affects the structural stability and solubility of these minerals. Here, we report a new strategy that uses the focused electron beam to probe the effect of differences in hydrogen bonding networks on mineral solubility. In this regard, the dissolution behavior of boehmite (γ-AlOOH) and gibbsite ( ...
